Dr. Hersh (first name could possibly be 'Scott', surname is also spelled as 'Hursh' in some localisations) is a character from
Resident Evil Outbreak. He was an Indian-British doctor at Raccoon General Hospital (RGH) in Raccoon City and heroically remained at the hospital tending to the infirm during the
t-Virus outbreak of 1998 which eventually resulted in the entire city being wiped off the face of the earth in a nuclear detonation.
He is encountered by a bunch of survivors who enter the hospital looking for supplies and maybe a safe space to rest. Hersh explains that the hospital is definitely not safe and the only way out is through the elevator which is currently out of order, but could be repaired by reconnecting power. He works with the survivors to find a way to do this and while he is making a return trip after reconnecting the power, he is attacked by what he thought was a decomposing corpse covered in leeches.
While he does manage to evade the monster, he then slices his hand which attracts the bloodthirsty leeches and they overwhelm him. The sheer amount of leeches (who were later discovered to be infected with the
t-Virus) over his body caused him to lose control; the leeches began to pilot his body and simply use him as a host to search for food. The resulting creature was named the
Leech Man by the survivors, and they had no idea that underneath it all was Dr. Hersh.
Due to their low intelligence, the leeches were fooled into entering a room called the Fixed Temperature Laboratory where the
Leech Man was blasted with boiling heat. This killed all of the leeches and caused them all to drop off the body, revealing to all the body of the doctor.
Interestingly, Dr. Hersh's razor can be found in the game and collected; characters comment on how expensive it looks. It's also worth mentioning that the survivors will comment on his body once the leeches are burned off including Jim who calls him 'that Dhalsim looking guy' (i.e. Dhalsim from Street Fighter).
He can be unlocked as a playable character and his statistics are derived from
George Hamilton. He starts in the DANGER state and carries a Hemostat item, which is a healing item which George can make.
