The
Leech Man was a unique and accidental creature made up of Leeches which were engineered by Umbrella Corporation. The Leeches essentially gathered together en-masse and overwhelmed a human host, taking control of it and destroying the consciousness. The
Leech was a favourite of Umbrella co-founder
James Marcus - he himself worked on the development of them and after his demise became a kind of
Leech Man himself, named
Mimicry Marcus.
However, the Leeches which created the
Leech Man were all created by accident - the
t-Virus had infected the water supply of Raccoon City and it transformed anything that consumed the water. When the infected water passed through the sewer system, Leeches took on the virus and began to change. Most importantly, a
Giant Leech was also created which was then capable of reproducing hundreds of already infected Leeches.
The body inside was essentially dead and the Leeches essentially drove the corpse. It was quite mobile considering the weight of a human body - it had the ability to climb and crawl through ventilation ducts. It's also worth pointing out that the
Leech Man only cared to feed - for example, it would ignore a threat if there was a source of fresh blood nearby.
Only one
Leech Man was ever found - in Raccoon General Hospital (RGH). The one encountered was using the body of
Dr. Hersh who had previously worked there. It was swiftly eliminated and the Leeches fell off the host, revealing the withered body underneath.
