Carter (could be their first name or their surname) is a character from
Resident Evil Outbreak.
He worked for the Umbrella Corporation as a low-level researcher at a laboratory in Raccoon City named the R&D Center and prior to the outbreak he and a small team were designing a countermeasure against the
t-Virus itself which Umbrella could have used in emergencies.
The product was in the prototype stage and was named AT1521. It was at a very early stage but had shown some positive steps when they did trials on mice (although it still had some way to go before it could become useful in the field).
When the outbreak happened, he and his colleague
Linda Baldwin made an attempt to return to the R&D Center to retrieve samples of AT1521 and found it to be overrun with escaped B.O.W.s such as Hunters which had been under development there. The fire safety system was also activated which set the building into lockdown and made traversal impossible.
Running out of options, Carter decided to release the experimental
Tyrant R and programmed it with instructions to eliminate the Hunters along with any other obstacle, and provide safe passage for him. Unfortunately as the
Tyrant R was still quite early in its development, it quickly broke its programming and became fully self-aware and turned on its master.
Carter had made sure that the monster had a fail-safe in the form of a microbomb inserted into its body and could be activated with a chunky remote control device which Carter held at all times. However, the creature proved to be more versatile than first thought and managed to sneak in behind him and smack him to the ground, causing him to drop the device. Linda attempted to come to his aid but she was also attacked by the monster.
After a futile attempt to reach the remote control, the
Tyrant R killed him and then proceeded to find other survivors to kill. It was later absorbed by another B.O.W. named
Nyx.
Carter can be unlocked as a playable character and shares gameplay mannerisms with
George Hamilton.
