Alyssa Ashcroft is a character from
Resident Evil Outbreak. She is an freelance investigative reporter and was one of the first civilians to investigate the rumour that the Umbrella Corporation were secretly testing illegal drugs and vaccines on humans, and that a local hospital was receiving payment in exchange for the unwitting donors.
She took her friend and colleague
Kurt with her to Raccoon General Hospital and they discovered a patient named
Dorothy Lester who had been exposed to an untested Umbrella product named T-JCCC203 - A drug based on an early strain of the
t-Virus which was innocently developed as a cancer treatment - and while it did kill cancer cells, it also made the user endlessly hungry and eventually mutated them into Zombies.
Dorothy awakened, attacked
Kurt and partially consumed him which alarmed both Alyssa and the on-call doctor,
Dr. Greg Mueller. In order to both satisfy that Umbrellas plans would not be unfurled and that Alyssa would have no memory of the incident, he performed a procedure which would ensure that her memories would always be clouded and uncertain when she tried to think back about what happened.
Many years later, she was relaxing at Jack's Bar within Raccoon City where a major
t-Virus outbreak occurred in the city, due to the water supply being contaminated. She realised that she had become infected as hordes of Zombies began attacking the bar. She escaped from the city into the Arklay Mountains and eventually to safety. Her
t-Virus infection was cured a short time after this which halted her infection and mutation.
A few decades after the horror of Raccoon City, we learn that Alyssa is still a freelance investigative reporter and wrote an article for the Dulvey Daily newspaper - writing about the strange disappearances of people from the town of Dulvey Parish, Louisiana and thus setting up
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. This is very notable as she is one of the few characters from the Outbreak series that have been referenced outside of it.
In terms of gameplay, she is fast and has a lot of health but due to her existing infection, her infection rate is the highest.
