Dr. Ethan is a character from
Resident Evil Outbreak.
Not to be confused with
Ethan Winters, protagonist of
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and
Resident Evil Village.
He was the Director of Medicine at the Raccoon General Hospital (RGH) of Raccoon City and was on-call at the time of the
t-Virus outbreak which occurred during September 1998. As patients began flooding in with the
t-Virus infection which was unknown at the time as early as the 10th September, he attempted to run as many tests as he could on what he could extract and looked for a way to treat it. He kept a diary of events and witnessed the progression of the virus first-hand. He may have been one of the first people to coin the term '
Zombie' within Raccoon City.
While he continued to develop a vaccine, more and more of his staff succumbed to the
t-Virus leaving very few staff left and the hospital itself was gradually becoming unmanageable. Unfortunately he ran out of time as he ran out of resources to continue testing and began feeling the effects of the
t-Virus himself, noting that his body started to become itchy and he felt an insatiable hunger.
In his final moments, he wandered over to the hospitals break room and turned into a
Zombie. He may have brewed himself a cup of coffee before then as a half-finished one was found near him. It is thought that he was killed by a survivor after this point as he was later found slumped over a couch by
Carlos Oliveira next to his blood-soaked diary. Carlos would later be able to craft a
t-Virus vaccine successfully.
Dr. Ethan is a playable character in the game and his characteristics are based on (rather fittingly)
George Hamilton.
