James "Jim" Chapman is a character from
Resident Evil Outbreak. He was contracted to work for the rail company Kite Bros. in the Raccoon City subway up until the entire city was overcome by a
t-Virus outbreak caused by samples getting into the water supply in late 1998. He found himself caught slap-bang in the middle of it all when he was taking a load off after a shift at Jack's Bar with a handful of other patrons. Everybody was unaware of the situation until a
Zombie entered the building and attacked the occupants within.
Knowing the subway routes fairly well, he decided to flee underground and find a way to navigate the subway out of Raccoon City and to safety. Although he garnered a reputation of being a bit of a pansy (i.e. he would prefer not to engage the monsters unlike many of the other survivors, and in fact he could convince some creatures that he was another corpse by 'playing dead'), he still managed to safely escape the city with the others.
Interestingly, he seems to be aware of another Capcom property Street Fighter, as he mentions the character Dhalsim.
In terms of gameplay, he is a luck-based character which means using him is entirely a gamble. He carries a lucky coin which can be used to potentially raise his critical hit chance all the way to 45%, but only if he flips the coin three times and it lands on heads. If it lands on tails at any point, the chance is reduced to zero. He also has considerably lower health than other characters and a higher infection rate - this infection rate is also increased if he is in his 'play dead' state.
