A Chrysalid is an evolutionary form that a C-Virus infected creature could potentially take. The process begins where they enter a Chrysalis (basically a large cocoon) and then a metamorphosis begins. The speed of this process varies, usually depending on the complexity of the evolution and also the emotional state of the infected. In most cases, the base creature is a J'avo and they tend to only enter a Chrysalid state when they have already mutated at least a couple of times and have previously spent time recovering from damage. The actual Chrysalis itself is created from a thick slime that is secreted by the infected to cover its entire body; from there it quickly hardens which contains it. Some J'avo which attempt to enter Chrysalis can fail the process which leads to a harmful explosion and their instant death.

In most cases, what emerges from a Chrysalis is an extremely strong creature which bears little resemblance to its previous forms. These are technically known as Complete Mutants and they tend to be very large and destructive. As their name suggests, they are the final stage in a C-Virus creatures' life cycle. Some examples of these are below with their names and rough translations into English:

A good defence against a Chrysalid is to destroy the cocoon before the process is complete. While in this state they are utterly immobile and defenceless, so any opportunity to stop the process is time spent well.

It's also worth pointing out that sometimes (seemingly most commonly on B.S.A.A. mercenaries) somebody that is infected with the C-Virus may immediately enter a Chrysalid state even without any time spent infected or previous trauma. It's possible that the unwilling are mutated faster in order to ensure that the virus takes over, as in a lot of cases the C-Virus retains most human aspects when compared to other infections and parasites.
