"Stand back Captain, I can kill this thing!"
Piers Nivans was a key member of the BSAA (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance) who for a time stepped into
Chris Redfield's shoes and led the Alpha team in his absence. He took over from Chris when the team was decimated by a surprise attack during a routine mission to settle a civil war in Edonia. The shock of losing so many of his colleagues led Chris to temporarily leave the BSAA, citing that the loss was too great for him to bear as he felt the responsibility was his; it was he who decided to send his men into a battle that they would lose.
Meanwhile, Piers had to rebuild the Alpha team using the best and brightest the BSAA had to offer and eventually the newly completed roster were assigned to a new mission; a bio-terrorism attack had occurred in Lanshiang, China as the result of a dispute between long-standing secret group The Family, in particular
Derek C. Simmons and a former colleague of
Derek named
Carla Radames; Carla had set up Neo Umbrella in the image of the now defunct company Umbrella and released the C-Virus throughout Lanshiang as well as several paramilitary units and various B.O.W.s (Bio-Organic Weapons).
Once again the Alpha Team had a lot to deal with and they needed a strong leader; while Piers held the reigns proudly and the new team held together strongly, they needed Chris back and so Piers finally convinced the legend to return and help finally drive back the enemy.
After several missions together, everything came to an unfortunate conclusion when Piers was ambushed by a B.O.W. called
HAOS which subsequently set off a chain of events where Piers became fatally wounded. In the struggle which ensued, he used the last of his energy to a C-Virus sample which he injected himself with. He reasoned that he did this for the benefit of the B.S.A.A. and for the future. He mutated rapidly into a form not unlike
Derek C. Simmons, albeit with some more aquatic abilities such as an electric-eel kind of bio-static-electricity power. The now monstrous Piers and Chris then worked together one final time to take down the
HAOS.
After the battle, Piers opted to stay behind and help Chris escape in a kind of emergency escape pod. He would rather end his life now while his humanity still remained within him and also be one less monster for Chris and the B.S.A.A. to eventually take down.
