Carla Radames

Dr Carla Radames was an extraordinarily bright young scientist who by her mid-teens was the proud owner of a PhD in Genetics and Genomics. After working her way up in the science world, she was eventually headhunted by The Family and began working directly under their leader Derek C. Simmons. He wished to develop a more advanced type of mutagenic viruses and B.O.W.s (Bio-Organic Weapons) to supersede the t-Virus, G-Virus and the t-Veronica viruses from Umbrella Inc.

The two were aiming to replicate and progress what the previous company did. Her main two projects were to create a new virus and also build the most advanced and destructive B.O.W.s ever. Derek supplied Carla with various virus samples including the t-Veronica and G-Viruses. Eventually she was able to use aspects of each to create a new albeit incomplete virus which was named the C-Virus (Chrysalid Virus) - named as such because the mutations which occur revolve around the host entering a Chrysalis.

Another research project Dr Radames was placed on was Project Ada, which was Derek's ambition to create a 100% copy of Ada Wong, who previously had dealings with him but rejected him on a personal level. He figured if he could find a suitable host that liked him, he could then use science to transform them into a new Ada.

Unfortunately despite their combined brain power, Project Ada failed many times resulting in abominations being created such as Lepotitsa and many other failures which were simply destroyed. Derek was becoming impatient, with thousands of attempts to re-create Ada and nothing but grotesque monsters to show for it - so eventually he decided to fool Carla into using herself as the Test Subject. He did this because he felt that she was a good match on a genetic level and so she willingly submitted to the idea, not realising just what would happen.

She began to mutate, like everything before her. She then entered the Chrysalis - and upon emerging she was completely reborn. The project was a success, she was Ada Wong with no memories to call her own. Thus, Derek told her everything he thought she should know to keep her in his side and his plan was a success. However, this would not last for long as eventually her previous memories slowly began trickling back causing her to second-guess herself and have flashes of being a different person.

As her thoughts continued to plague her, she secretly span-off a section of The Family and named it Neo Umbrella - the company was created to take aim at Derek C. Simmons and undo his work. She began working on more B.O.W.s such as the Ubistvo and the Ustanak, the latter being an intelligent Brute that would take her instructions and actually developed compassion for her. She also continued to work on the C-Virus, hoping to enhance it even further.

Her main achievement was the creation of a massive B.O.W. named HAOS - this creature was so large and complex that it required its own facility which was situated on the Chinese seabed. HAOS was projected to be able to spread the C-Virus through the air throughout the globe.

She continued to work on several projects for Derek despite her other goals, in order to keep him from being suspicious. One of these was heading to Edonia in order to find Jake Muller, who they surmised that he could have C-Virus antibodies in his system with him being related to Albert Wesker. She found Jake working with a mercenary group. However, upon finding him she decided to do something different - she gave him and his team what she called 'energy booster' injections. These were in fact samples of the C-Virus. One by one, his team were mutated by it and they transformed into J'avo. He on the other hand was not effected - thus she got the answer she needed; he had the antibodies.

As her thoughts became less clouded over time, she learned to be able to switch between her previous self as Carla and her mutated self as Ada. As such, she would act as both where needed. For example, being Carla when interacting with the Ustanak. Or being Ada when talking with Derek or others. With the Ustanak, she signalled it to find and capture Jake and Sherry Birkin who were evading her grasp - eventually they were caught and she reported back to Derek that they had been caught and killed with the hope of drawing a line in the sand regarding the two.

Back in China and with a sample of Jake's blood she resumed work on the enhanced C-Virus. These enhancements made it much more resistant to antibodies and also made the mutations happen right from the moment of infection into powerful Chrysalid-based forms, and even allowed multiple mutations. Development of B.O.W.s continued and eventually they spilled out onto the streets of Lanshiang, China. She also made sure that Derek received an injection of the C-Virus by dispatching a team of technologically advanced Neo Umbrella J'avo after him. She also sent him a video message stating that she was primed to destroy him and The Family. With this, he saw red and knew that he had been betrayed - he had to do what he could to stop her.

After a time, DSO agents and B.S.A.A. operatives including Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield also managed to descend on her where she was holed up on her Aircraft Carrier; but they were not certain if she was the real Ada Wong or not. The confusion between them all gave Carla the opportunity to evade them once again until she was met with her template; Ada Wong had tracked her down and she was finally brought to her end when she was cornered, disarmed and left precariously standing on the edge of a raised section of the carrier. A helicopter rose up behind her, piloted by The Family militants and she received a powerful bullet through the chest. She fell from the edge onto a platform below, plummeting to her doom.


However, she was not done. Due to her special infection with an enhanced C-Virus, she began to mutate once again (this was indeed a feature of the enhanced C-Virus). A milky substance covered her body and spread throughout the aircraft carrier. Eventually, her human form dissolved into the rest of the gloop and her mind was now lost by the mutations. She began to flip-flop between Carla Radames and Ada Wong intent on destroying all of those on the carrier. She was felled by a ruptured liquid nitrogen vat which crystallised the substance and made it brittle - this would quickly kill her for good.

After her death, the Ustanak remained on mission despite losing his master. However it was killed by Jake and Sherry. Also, the HAOS was designed to activate instantly on Carla's death, despite it being incomplete - this B.O.W. was also destroyed by Chris and his teammate Piers Nivans (Piers gave his life to stop HAOS and save Chris however) - this also ended up in the destruction of the seabed facility thus halting all work and research that Carla ever made.

A vaccine for the C-Virus was later produced, and also Derek C. Simmons was later killed by Leon, Helena Harper and Ada after a long firefight where he mutated various times due to his advanced C-Virus infection. This essentially ended everything from Project Ada and all C-Virus research.
