Test Subjects (not an official name, they were never given one in the game) were barely living people who were previously captured by TRICELL and experimented on while they were iterating on the Uroboros Virus. It is thought that they were mainly used to attempt to eliminate or improve the rejection rate in humans, as the window for a successful Uroboros symbiosis was extremely narrow - only the people with the absolutely perfect genes and characteristics would pass the 'evaluation' - all others would be rejected and be physically destroyed by the virus, becoming nothing more than a shambling shadow.

Every single one that encountered B.S.A.A. agents Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar appeared to be extremely emaciated and close to death - nothing more but skin and bone, lying on the ground. TRICELL had long considered them to have outlived their usefulness and were on their way to being euthanised, either by incineration or complete destruction. However, the ones which were still active were still violent towards the agents, conserving enough energy to attack.

However, due to their obvious disadvantages, little more than a shove or a single shot would be enough to finish them off. Overall, they were similar to Zombies albeit far, far weaker and less ravenous.

Interestingly, they all appear to be white males, which is the same as a handful of (much stronger and energetic) Uroboros Test subjects which the B.S.A.A. agents came across earlier in their mission. It's possible that they were all captured from a similar place and at a similar time.
