The Vârcolac is a mutated human which has been further mutated from scientific experimentation to resemble a large wolf. The name stems from ancient Greek folklore around fantastical creatures such as ghosts, vampires and werewolves which were first known as Vrykolakas. In time, this passed on between generations and resulted in the Romanian tale and is now known as Vârcolac (the word loosely translates as "Wolf's Fur"). The creature is also said to have the power to swallow the sun and moon whole in some tales.
In the eponymous Eastern European Village, the creature is what could only be described as a fully formed Werewolf. They were created by
Salvatore Moreau who thought there could be further mutation on the
Lycan, and so he spliced in the DNA of a Wolf into the spinal cord of an existing mutant - the
Cadou parasite which was already present inside the body allowed the DNA to perfectly synergise with the human host and thus the further mutation occurred successfully. Moreau was not really scientist (although the previous members of his family were mainly doctors), so he had not assumed anything when experimenting - he was simply curious and wanted to create something unique.
Visually, it resembles a oversized human with warped physiology. There are remnants of clothing attached to the creature such as what remains of a shirt and trousers which shows that the figure used to be human, then
Lycan. The majority of the creature is covered in long black fur which obscures their body for the most part - what usually can be seen are their piercing eyes and large mouth. Their eyes are so bright that even in daylight, they appear to be reflective.
In comparison with their former selves, they are much more aggressive and beast-like. They have taken on many
Dog-like traits, such as becoming a quadruped, relying on their senses and using their sharp claws,
Brute strength and sharp teeth as weapons. When paired with Lycans, they saw them more as attack dogs rather than companions and simply used them as an offensive weapon.
Unfortunately due to their size, they have issues entering smaller spaces such as doorways. As such, unless there is the building has severe structural damage, they cannot enter. This leaves them open for attack as they are left open as they are attempting to squeeze through a gap which they cannot fit. However, they do soon realise this after a time and decide to back away. Due to their lower intelligence though, they will not remember this after a short time and once again attempt it again if they spot prey in this way. This allows for some tactical gunplay.
