Uriaș (a word referring to giants, in Romanian folklore) was a creature developed by Mother Miranda after she began experimenting on humans with the Cadou parasite. Usually, the parasite would turn a human into a Lycan but on this occasion, the mutation continued past the expected levels and the host grew substantially. Unlike most mutations, the creature had a large body which was in proportion - the most striking thing about their appearance apart from their size was their long, grey hair which surrounded their entire face, giving them a wolf-man hybrid appearance.

They wield an enormous Warhammer (which appeared to have what could only be described as a meat tenderiser on the end of it) and use their Brute strength to thunder down terror on any enemy that gets in their way. The weapon seemed to be made of an old anvil or possibly a fire hydrant, wrapped in chains and then attached to a heavy duty pipe. In a show of strength, the monster will also swing his weapon around and hold it aloft. It also appears that they wear clothing specifically designed for them - unlike the tattered remains of cloth which other mutants wear.

To other Lycans, the Uriaș is one of their own and they are aware of their superior strength and vitality and will work with them to achieve their goals.

In Ethan Winters' case, he encounters Uriaș a couple of times during his visit to the village. The first encounter is shortly after being attacked by Lycans for the first time, where after surviving the horde for a few minutes, he will appear and start to chase Ethan with his Warhammer at an alarming pace. While regular Lycans can be defeated with a handful of gunshots, the Uriaș has far more maximum health and appears to be unbeatable (this is not the case, the monster can be killed here, but it is considered more of a gameplay feat rather than a true demise for the creature). After a while, a noise is heard by the Uriaș and the Lycans and they all flee.

Ethan encounters the creature again during his escape from Karl Heisenberg's gauntlet - while he is running along a narrow raised stone path, it jumps from the depths below and attempts to knock him over. As Ethan is determined to press on, he simply passes by and the Uriaș does not follow.

Finally, much later on Ethan has a very close combat encounter with Uriaș in an old Stronghold area which had since been overrun with Lycans. In this fight, Ethan was forced to deal with the creature face to face - while the attacks from it were a problem, the creature also had the ability to tear stone pillars from the ground and hurl them at Ethan.

Despite the battle being extremely difficult and long, the Uriaș was eventually defeated by Ethan, which caused its body to calcify - its remains appeared to be bonded to its Warhammer which Ethan could then take and either keep or sell to The Duke.

Back when the host was originally human, he had a bigger, older brother who was also subject to the same infection - he mutated in much the same way but the mutation continued to progress even further - particularly with the Cadou parasite, as it grew much larger and its tentacles sprouted from the host. This creature was named the Uriaș Străjer (with Străjer being the Romanian word for Sentinel). It carries an even larger weapon and was eventually encountered by Chris Redfield.
