Majini is the collective term for humans that are infected with a Type 2 or Type 3 Plaga. The majority of the infected appear to be of African descent (in particular the Ndipaya people) but a Majini could theoretically be from any background. They are distinct from the Ganado who were infected with the Type 1 or Type 4 Plaga (known as Las Plagas). Also, whereas Ganado used the Plaga of their own accord, the Majini were created when international conglomerate TRICELL Inc (trading simply as Tricell - the name stemming from the fact that the conglomerate was created from the merger of three companies) began using the Plaga in research and needed subjects for human testing.

In Swahili, Majini means a group of powerful, supernatural and demonic forces. To be technically correct, an individual Majini would be known as a Jini (Ma- being a plural prefix) but they are never referred to as such.

The Tricell experiments began in the mid-to-late 2000s with enhanced versions of the Type 1 Plaga (being the Type 2, Type 3 and the Type 4 - for the creation of the Majini they used Type 2 and Type 3). Interestingly their experiments showed that their Plaga infection only worked on the adult men - all experiments involving women and children (including young males) caused fatal seizures and then death. This stunted the local community with a large majority of children and women dead, only the men were left in their new Majini forms. As aggression is increased, it was difficult for the infected to keep a clear head thus life as they knew it would never be the same.

After some positives in their testing, Tricell continued to develop the Type 3 Plaga and began hiring Majini to use in their own private security, largely to protect their research and maintain secrecy. However after some time the company realised that Majini had the ability to create more Majini by impregnating others with a Plaga egg (this was done by mouth-to-mouth transmission, similarly to how birds feed their young). While this created an uncontrollable spread, the company continued to experiment with the Plaga so that they could monitor their performance. After the B.S.A.A. (including members Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar) responded to the reports of bio-terrorism in Africa, Tricell decided to monitor the Majini more closely and evaluated their combat performance against seasoned mercenaries, even dispatching more and more to fight the teams.

Like the Ganado, the Majini don't outwardly display any obvious infections unless one looks closely. This differs to other viral infections such as the C-Virus which can create the J'avo who develop extra eyes and sharp teeth - the Majini keep all of their human features and can even go about their daily lives relatively normally. For example even the Kijuju people maintained an economy of trade, bartering goods as well as dealing with external traders such as Ricardo Irving.

When the Plaga parasite is introduced to the body either through injection to the bloodstream or the mouth, parasitic takeover happens within a matter of seconds (which is different to the Type 1 Plaga used on the Ganado, that process is much slower). The parasite latches onto the brain and takes partial control over the body's nervous system.

When the B.S.A.A. first arrived, the Majini appeared to be passive - simply observing from afar with some reserve. They were witnessed committing some strange antisocial acts such as infighting and mutilation of animals. The atmosphere could have been cut with a knife. Eventually combat between the two sides began, where multiple B.S.A.A. squads became splintered and with dwindling numbers. However the team comprising of Chris and Sheva made it through hordes of Majini who eventually started mutate rapidly with their Plaga sprouting from parts of their body, most commonly the mouth or the entire head.

It is possible for Majini to mutate into more advanced parasitic forms such as the Duvalia, Cephalo, Kipepeo or the Bui Kichwa. It's also possible for a Majini to fail to mutate and explode into a mess of flesh and bone. The resulting explosion is violent enough to cause damage to anything around them.

After Chris and Sheva's successful mission, the remaining Majini were excluded into a quarantine area with impassable walls surrounding them. They were kept alive there for a few years while rescue operations occurred to recover non-infected people and eventually Umbrella Corps used the area in an information gathering mission which involved sending in agents such as 3A-7 to eliminate all remaining Majini and evaluate weapons data.

The ultimate weakness of the Majini as compared to the Ganado is that there was no Dominant Species Plaga involved, which would ultimately control the recessive (regular) Plagas. With one, they could have co-ordinated better and would have had a better chance to defeat the B.S.A.A or the Umbrella Corps operatives.
