3A-7 (Also known as "The Player") is the code-name of the Umbrella Corps mercenary with the task of exploring biohazard exclusion zones and quarantine areas with the ultimate goal of locating and securing Umbrella research materials, so that ultimately this new organisation could potentially continue the work that Umbrella Inc started many years after their dissolution. His side objectives were also to engage any B.O.W. that may be still roaming these areas and collect organic samples as well as combat data.
He was sent to a number of historical Umbrella-involved sites such as Spain, Antarctica, Africa and even custom made recreations of areas such as the Spencer Mansion and Raccoon City. These locations were kept so secret that anybody entering or exiting these sites had to be put into a medically induced slumber as to not give anything away about their true locations, although it is assumed Mainland North America would be the most likely rough location as mimicking the atmosphere elsewhere would be nigh-on impossible.
He worked under a handful of superiors, and eventually discovered that they were altering mission parameters intentionally to make his survival rate much lower. The main reason behind this was that he was too effective at eliminating B.O.W.s which in turn lowered their value on the black market as it gave the impression that they were not as tough as first though. Thankfully, 3A-7 survives all of this and despite the back-stabbing, continues to work under Umbrella Corps. It's not known what ultimately happened to his previous superiors as they were either re-assigned, dismissed from their positions or they simply disappeared. After tales of his mission successes made waves through the organisation he earned the moniker "The new Grim Reaper".
It's highly implied that 3A-7 is either HUNK from previous Resident Evil games (as HUNK was nicknamed "Grim Reaper"), or at least biologically similar. He dresses the same in a black tactical uniform complete with full-face helmet, filtered gas mask with red eye lenses. It's also possible that 3A-7 may be related to Albert Wesker in some way, as he is voiced by D.C. Douglas who has voiced that character since Resident Evil 5. Although what is more likely is that they only hired one male voice actor for the project.
