The Reaper were B.O.W.s (Bio-Organic Weapons) created accidentally after cockroaches consumed samples of the
Uroboros virus which were being stored in warheads, to used later in missile strikes around the world. Unfortunately, the facility they were stored in had a fire incident which compromised the warheads.
The exposure to
Uroboros led them to having the infection and their bodies mutated in quite astonishing ways. For instance, they grew to a height of approximately 7 feet and became bipedal. Each one of their limbs became highly muscular and their carapace transformed into impenetrable armour. At the ends of their arms were razor-like claws. It also had the ability to emit a disorienting smog which impaired vision.
In combat they were devastatingly aggressive - in fact, their name comes from the fact that they effortlessly decimated countless
Majini who were attempting to capture one live for research purposes.
When they were first exposed to the virus, they entered a cocoon and quickly metamorphosed into the Reaper. The unlikeliness that
Uroboros successfully bonded with the
Cockroach is really interesting - it may be that the virus considers it to be a perfect organism in its class and therefore elevated it into a much stronger form unlike in most cases where the virus will tear the host apart after rejection.
Unfortunately, due to the fact that their mutation was an accident, several key weaknesses were recognised; chiefly that their bodies were riddled with white growths which would become far more prominent when the Reaper was injured - and these all served as critical weak points. If these sensitive areas were to be destroyed, it would kill the creature in mere moments.
Interestingly, they share a lot of similarities with the
Chimera, a much earlier B.O.W. created in a laboratory environment with the
t-Virus and various DNA specimens from insects and a female host. However, the Reaper is purely from
Cockroach host, which proves that
Uroboros is much more versatile and powerful than the
t-Virus.
