Cephalo, which is a word meaning relating to the head or skull, is a stage in the life cycle of a Type 2 and Type 3
Plaga which occurs some time after a host has been assimilated. In most cases, this is the 'main stage' of a
Plaga and one which they spend the most amount of time in.
While they are mostly dormant when in a human host (occasionally they will reveal parts of themselves through the mouth), they show their true forms when the host takes a considerable amount of damage (for instance, a shot to the head). From there, they burst through the neck and essentially become the new head.
Appearance wise, they resemble a huge centipede with a dozen sharp legs at the base of their bodies. Their body is constantly moving in a gyrating motion, most likely a tactic so they remain fully alert. For offense, they have a large spike-shaped structure on top of their heads. There are also smaller spikes that run along its body but these appear to be either cosmetic or as a defence mechanism to prevent it from being grabbed.
Interestingly, the first Cephalo which B.S.A.A. agents
Chris Redfield and
Sheva Alomar meet is the one which emerges from
Allyson, a Caucasian woman who very quickly changed from a healthy human, to an infected individual and then into the Cephalo.
