Air Screamer

The Air Screamer is a large flying monster and is notable for being one of the first creatures that Harry Mason encounters after his fateful visit to Old Silent Hill. It's clear that they actively hunt prey at any cost, and nowhere is safe as one crashes through the front window of Café 5to2 to attack him.

In terms of it's appearance, it is completely hairless and featherless - it has Bat-like wings with pink skin stretched rather tightly over it's entire body. Their wings are so thin that dark veins can be seen throughout - but they are supported by strong bones and chest muscles. It has a large but slender body and remains airborne for as long as possible, even attacking from the air and then retreating. They have elongated heads with beaks and side-facing eyes. They have also been observed retreating away to a far away distance if they've been hurt.

When an Air Screamer is near, the radio will make a chirping sound, but the best thing to do if one is encountered is to simply run away (if you know where you are going). Otherwise, if you have to, firing on them with a Handgun is the next best choice. Once an Air Screamer has fallen out of the air, it's recommended to stomp on them to ensure that they have been killed for good. Additionally, the creature will also make a high-pitched screaming sound when attacking (their namesake).

Their existence is most likely due to Alessa Gillespie's skewed interpretations of dinosaurs and pterosaurs after being introduced to The Lost World by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, with some demonic aspects mixed in. It's worth noting that they tend to stay outdoors in the streets of Silent Hill and usually attack on their own, although a large flock of Air Screamers can be encountered on the way to Central Silent Hill.

The Air Screamer is also known as "Avian Monster (Type A)" - and as that name suggests, there is an Otherworld version of the creature which is called a Night Flutter, or "Avian Monster (Type B)". The Night Flutter shares a lot of characteristics with the Wormhead, which is in itself an Otherworld version of the Groaner.
