Café 5to2

  • Café 5to2 is a small American-style diner located on Bachman Street which is part of Old Silent Hill - a residential area located within Silent Hill, Maine. This location is rarely seen by tourists and as such the establishment saw many regulars as well as people just passing through. This diner is where Harry Mason first wakes up from his nightmare where he imagines an alleyway filled with razor wire, strung up corpses and diminutive monsters biting at his ankles.

He is awakened by police officer Cybil Bennett and it's here he receives the essential items he needs to continue his journey throughout Silent Hill and its Otherworld. As he attempts to exit the diner despite Cybil's suggestion not to, a flying monster called an Air Screamer crashes through a window forcing him into combat. Also, if Harry tries to enter the diner early, the game takes over and forces Harry to follow a set path where a girl (later found to be Alessa Gillespie) is leading him somewhere.

Interestingly, the name 5to2 was lifted directly from the Oliver Stone movie Natural Born Killers, where a diner of the same name is featured. Although in Silent Hill: Shattered Memories the diner is renamed Diner 52 - as this could be from Harry's skewed recollection of events.

Also, a few of the objects inside Café 5to2 are significant references to other things including posters of UK trip-hop band Portishead (the band logo can also be discerned), as well as renditions of Stephen King's classic "Study, dammit!" posters which feature a figure pointing a shotgun at the viewer. Finally, there is also a pinball table named "Medieval Madness" which is a real pinball table made by Williams.
