The Hunter Elite is an enhanced version of the Hunter α and the
Hunter II - using what was learned from those B.O.W.s as a basis, Umbrella poured hundreds of hours of resources into perfecting the Hunter series. What emerged from that research were a handful of live specimens which were stronger, faster and larger than the previous versions. Interestingly it seems that they were not considered to be enhanced with technology and thus 'programmable' like some in the Hunter series. Also, unlike previous entries in the Hunter line, the Hunter Elite was not quite symmetrical - one of their hands were clawed, one was not. It could be that they were intended to be able to use equipment, but they were never trained to do so.
Only two were ever produced and were placed in the cargo hold of the Umbrella vessel Spencer Rain, where they would have been offered up as examples to prospective buyers. Unfortunately, the ship was commandeered by rogue Umbrella researcher
Morpheus D. Duvall who eventually released them onto the top deck of the ship with the hope that they would defeat the US and Chinese agents
Bruce McGivern and
Fong Ling who had boarded the ship and were giving chase.
They were defeated by the duo. In battle they showed that they were fairly dexterous and flexible - they were observed to be adept at closing large distances by jumping and could also perform a somersault.
