Tom was a member of S.O.R.T. (Secret Operation Raid Team) and his assignment was to infiltrate Ibis Island and learn what was happening there, and if the lead scientist Dr.
Edward Kirk was alive, as it had been reported that he was dead. He found Dr. Kirk alive and well, and gradually worked his way into more sensitive areas of the main research facility as he gained Dr. Kirk's trust.
It was Tom's communications back to S.O.R.T. which included a report on Third Energy, which was supposed to be research into a new form of clean energy; in fact, several aspects of Third Energy were discovered depending on the energy level generated by the equipment. One, it could do what it was designed for - clean energy. Two, it could become a cataclysmic explosive weapon. Three, it could alter space-time and allow passage from one time period into the next. Although the latter was largely unstable and unpredictable which is what caused prehistoric dinosaurs to inhabit Ibis Island.
Once S.O.R.T. learned what was going on there, a team comprised of
Gail,
Regina,
Rick and
Cooper were dispatched to recover Dr.
Edward Kirk and also secretly obtain the Third Energy data so it could be researched by the US Army. When they reached the island they had discovered that it was overrun by dinosaurs and that almost all people stationed there had been killed.
Cooper died shortly after reaching the island and
Gail was separated from
Regina and
Rick. Sometime later the trio got back together, and shortly after this they discovered that Tom was still alive, albeit injured. When they found him, he was equipped with a MAC-10 machine pistol.
Regina and
Rick sought to find Tom and attempted to rescue him. However, they entered a room which contained a resting
Velociraptor which attacked Tom and finished him off.
As player choice affects some aspects of the game, it is entirely possible for Tom to die off-screen as the player can decide not to try and rescue him themselves.
