Excella Gionne was a TRICELL executive who was born into the company. Her family headed several international companies for hundreds of years collectively and as such, had amassed a considerable amount of money. Also due to the large variety of industries that the family had been involved in over the years, they were considered to be part of the elite. Excella herself grew to become extremely arrogant, self-serving and materialistic. She was also highly intelligent and manipulative which eventually led her working for TRICELL.
She was known for her distinctive attire, dressing more like a red carpet celebrity rather than a businesswoman. It could be that she used her appearance to get further in business, which would certainly be plausible in an organisation full of 'suits'.
However, upon closer inspection of her documentation the board of directors decided to place her lower on the corporate rung - they had realised that she was not a 'pure' member of the original family, but part of the greater extended family. While she was given a leadership role, she was not satisfied with this arrangement and vowed to beat them at their own game eventually; this led her to partner up with Dr.
Albert Wesker who had the funds and the contacts to get whatever she required (little did she know however, Wesker was merely using her as a vector for his own world domination with the
Uroboros virus).
With Weskers help, Excella soon became the CEO of TRICELL and transferred to their African operations. While she thought his intentions were true and that they may have had a relationship (she was staggered by and admired his cunning and intelligence), what he was actually doing was using her and the company to finalise the development of
Uroboros and arrange for it to be distributed throughout the globe.

Ricardo Irving all worked together in the Kijuju region of West Africa to develop and distribute the Type 2 and Type 3
Plaga parasites, based on the
Plaga found by the
Los Illuminados in Spain. Almost all of the local population were turned into the
Majini, and even some poor souls were forced into experimentation with early versions of the
Uroboros virus, which ultimately turned them all into destroyed,
Zombie-like monsters covered in tentacles.
Eventually the B.S.A.A. caught wind of what was happening in the region and sent out
Chris Redfield to investigate. There, he met up with his companion
Sheva Alomar and they sought out Irving, who they had a tip-off that he was about to land a black market deal on B.O.W.s (Bio-Organic Weapons) that he was producing. After fighting their way through
Majini and
Ricardo Irving himself, they were eventually directed towards Excella and Wesker.
Although the duo encountered Excella a handful of times, they were mostly from a distance; for example, she activated an
Uroboros Test subject from an observation deck which then attacked the agents. When they would eventually meet face-to-face was when she met her demise.
Wesker had decided that she had outlived her usefulness, and her last grand act should be to kill Chris and Sheva, as they were closing in on him. To do this, he injected her with a
Uroboros sample. Absolutely horrified and surprised, she turned to Wesker and asked why he would betray her. Before she could get her answer, she fell into an enormous pile of dead
Majini,
Uroboros tentacles burst from her mouth and then the virus consumed all of the biomass around her which culminated in the unique variant
Uroboros Aheri. The create was so vast that it had no human form left, Excellas body was completely gone.
A battle ensued between the mindless monster and the B.S.A.A. agents in which the latter were victorious. They then pressed on to find Wesker. It turned out that Excella had previously been given the responsibility of administering vials of a serum which Wesker needed to keep his body 'balanced', named PG67A/W. Upon her death, Chris collected a few of these from the ground and later used them to give Wesker an overdose which strained his abilities.
After her death, TRICELL became embroiled in a media frenzy regarding their shady business practices, much like Umbrella before them and was later wound down. It's not sure what happened next for her family but it is most likely that they retained their wealth and conducted other business, away from the poor reputation that TRICELL had earned.
