The Wasp is not to be confused with the following:
- The Bee, which is a similar looking creature but derived from a honey Bee.
- The Halbert, an experimental Bee-like creature created by Umbrella but actually a combination of horseshoe crab and Cockroach DNA.
- The Gnezdo, a C-Virus infected J'avo which takes the form of a swarm of wasps.
In this case, the Wasp is a regular wasp which has been mutated by the
t-Virus via the
Huge Plant. They resemble the Japanese Giant Hornet, which is unusual as they are located in the United States. The transformation is relatively minor - the creature increases in size to over ten times its usual size and exhibits relatively normal wasp behaviour, apart from being extra aggressive and very fast. Their sting is also far more potent, being able to put most humans into shock after a few stings.
They became what they are from consuming nectar from the
Huge Plant, which was infected with the
t-Virus and also contained a dead, but infected human body in its core (
Dorothy Lester). When they returned to their nests, the infection spread throughout and infected everything including the nest structure itself.
Interestingly, a side-effect of their infection was the production of their poison which, when extracted became a vital component of Daylight, which was an early
t-Virus treatment. As a chemical the substance was known as V-Poison.
Wasps are relatively easy to kill despite their mutation - it's handy to know that they can still be crushed to death by walking over them.
