Iulian (sometimes incorrectly referred to as Julian) was a resident of a village somewhere in Eastern Europe. It is not known what his role was before the
Lycan ambush but afterwards he became a guard for
Luiza's safehouse, making sure that the front gates to the property remained closed and any stragglers outside were dealt with from his trusty pump-action shotgun.
As well as guarding the entrance, he also performed perimeter patrols which led him further away from the main building, even through dangerous areas such as a nearby cornfield.
When he and
Ethan Winters meet, he has his weapon raised and takes exception to both him as an outsider and Ethan's company which included the critically wounded
Leonardo Lupu. Of course, he would be correct in his assumption that bringing in Leonardo was the wrong move... but at the time, everybody was just trying to save as many people as possible.
At first, Iulian refuses to let them into the house, until
Luiza comes to the doorway and overrides him. She then instructs him to do a patrol around the property just to make sure that there are no Lycans following.
Iulian is not seen again until a little later when Ethan is forced to exit the property, which was now burning down and all of its inhabitants dead, due to Leonardo succumbing to the
Lycan infection, killing a few of the survivors and then causing a fire to break out.
Ethan spots him pleading with
Mother Miranda in a field, as it is implied that he shot at her multiple times, not knowing who she was (most likely due to the incredibly poor visibility in the field). Either way, she intended to kill him. To him, he still viewed Miranda as a figure to be worshipped, so assumed that she was angry with him over the shooting.
Miranda then holds him up by his throat, snaps his neck effortlessly, then throws him to the ground. She then walks out of the field, laughing menacingly and then shapeshifts into
The Old Hag (Ethan does not realise at the time that the two are the same person). Interestingly, Iulian's body cannot be found in the field, nor his weapon. However, there is a large blood stain left where his life had been extinguished.
His death marked the final living person of the village. Thus, the area was now devoid of human life and all that remained were monsters and mutants.
