Enrico Marini was a high-ranking S.T.A.R.S. operative who reported directly to team leader
Albert Wesker, and was also the captain of Bravo team. Under his leadership his team were the first to respond to an incident in the Arklay Mountains which was situated quite near their home base of Raccoon City.
When he was younger he joined the military and proved to be extremely competent and reliable. After his tours were over he joined various police forces and SWAT teams where he eventually met long time colleague
Barry Burton. Eventually the two were headhunted by specialist recruiters in Raccoon City who were tasked with building a new kind of police force which was later named S.T.A.R.S. - Umbrella also funded the team and therefore had an influence over decision making which is what led to Enrico being a vice captain as opposed to primary captain which went to Wesker (who then was not known to have worked for Umbrella).
Bravo team answered the call and travelled to the Arklay Mountains via helicopter at night. There had been reports of cannibalism and animal attacks in the area so the entire team was on alert. When they arrived on the scene their helicopter suffered a catastrophic engine failure which forced the team to land in an unplanned location. The team disembarked from their broken transport and pressed on through the heavily forested area ahead and one of the first things they came across was a US Marines Multipurpose Vehicle which had two dead occupants as well as information regarding what they were transporting which turned out to be a dangerous criminal named
Billy Coen who was on death row. Immediately Enrico decided that finding the criminal was the top priority and assumed that it was he who killed the vehicles occupants.
However Enrico and his team were ambushed by
Cerberus dogs and Zombies who were the true targets. As their appearances were frightening and unexpected, the team decided to flee because they were unfamiliar with their enemy and managed to find the
Spencer Mansion which they entered through the front door. As they entered the apparent safety of the mansion the team split up to attempt to scout and clear the building. Enrico managed to locate a channel which connected the
Spencer Mansion to an Umbrella scientific facility named NEST which was built underneath the mansion. In NEST he met up with fellow Bravo team medic
Rebecca Chambers who had found the criminal
Billy from earlier but had since separated.
Enrico now had to make the decision whether to cancel the hunt for
Billy and attempt to escape the area with Rebecca and the rest of his team, or allow Rebecca to remain at NEST to try and find
Billy once again. He decided to go ahead and let Rebecca find
Billy and he attempted to return back to the
Spencer Mansion on his own to attempt to reach other members of Bravo team.
He became seriously injured when he was attacked by an unknown B.O.W. (Bio-Organic Weapon) in some caverns under the mansion - but not before he managed to find information on Umbrella's involvement in the creation of B.O.W.s and the other creatures which now inhabited the mansion. He also managed to uncover information that one of the members of S.T.A.R.S. was acting as a mole for Umbrella and was under orders to betray their team - it's most likely that Enrico had deduced that this person was indeed
Albert Wesker, and in fact it was Wesker who shot and killed Enrico while other members of Alpha team were attempting to look for him.
Before his death Enrico had lost all hope in S.T.A.R.S. and correctly assumed that the team would be disbanded as soon as they returned to base due to the fact Umbrella had financed the team, placed a mole in the team and in fact the entire operation was a farce to begin with. However Umbrella likely did not bet on some of the members surviving.
