Ultimate-8, or U-8 as it is more widely known was a unique B.O.W. (Bio-Organic Weapon) developed by TRICELL. It shared many similarities with the
U-3 developed by the
Los Illuminados, but is considered to be a vast upgrade. Most importantly, it was developed under the eyes of many with a scientific background and with the research data acquired from years of experimentation with the
Plaga parasite.
It was developed by fusing different aspects of a few species of arthropod and combining it with a series of Type 3
Plaga parasites. Since the product was still in its experimental stage, there were certain aspects of it which led it to a disadvantage. For example, its rapid growth from a small creature to a massive monster forced its body to become weakened (possibly due to a lack of present biomass) with many exposed vital parts. Essentially, the creature has patches on its body where there is no protection and the soft flesh which is supposed to be underneath is on the surface. It also had a limited use, so was marketed as a base defence B.O.W. rather than a general purpose one.
Ricardo Irving, TRICELL's main B.O.W. dealer in the area managed to sell a few to interested parties and was eventually given feedback about its lack of defensive capabilities. To combat this, an armoured version was developed (possibly altering the DNA which denotes how much chitin is made) named the U-8 Prime. While this development was positive, TRICELL got into difficulty when attempting to shrink down the size of the beast as it was simply too large for widespread use.
After much deliberation, development was ceased on the U-8 as all attempts to miniaturise it made it far weaker and straightforward to defeat.
An original Ultimate-8 was released from storage in a TRICELL facility when it had been breached by the B.S.A.A. agents
Chris Redfield and
Sheva Alomar. It was defeated when the agents took advantage of its key weakness by destroying its limbs which prevented it from moving or defending itself. It was then ultimately destroyed when its mouth was filled with explosives and detonated, destroying its brain.
Interestingly, the U-8 is capable of spawning many smaller, weaker flying creatures simply called Drones. On closer inspection they do not seem to be related to the U-8 itself and the creature doesn't appear to have any capability to reproduce. It's not certain where they came from, perhaps they were regular flies that were infected somehow when they touched the monster. What we do know is that they were merely included for gameplay purposes - they offer a slight deviation from the U-8 and also drop useful supplies on death.
