The Scissor Tail is the name given to an earwig which has been transformed by the
t-Virus. They were all created accidentally when the water supply of Raccoon City was contaminated with the virus by Dr.
William Birkin in mid-to-late September of 1998.
Far from their humble existence as an earwig, they grow to be approximately 6 feet tall and come in at least two very similar varieties (the colouring is different and the sizes are slightly different, but ultimately have the same capabilities). They have become extremely aggressive and have the ability to bite, scratch and cut; the latter due to the existence of two large blades on the end of their body which resemble a pair of scissors (hence their name). The former is due to their head which sports very sharp teeth and their sharp extremities. They also have the ability to poison.
Unfortunately, due to the fact that the
t-Virus does not always mutate creatures in ways that retain all aspects of their previous state, their wings have now become quite useless - while they can move them around, they are nowhere near large enough to allow the creature to fly, even for a moment.
Interestingly, the Scissor Tail was identified very early on by a hiker who had a
Dog which was attacked by one in the Arklay Mountains forest area and it was even reported in a local newspaper. However, local experts ridiculed the piece and disregarded it completely, referring to it as 'fake news'.
