Ivy +YX was a B.O.W. (Bio-Organic Weapon) designed by Umbrella utilising their research on the Progenitor virus and plant life. They used their existing Plant 43 (otherwise known as Ivy in some titles) experiments. Although all existing samples of Plant 43 ceased to exist at that point in time, they had enough data to build this new version and make it more appealing to the mass-market.
The creature is mostly the same as the previous design, apart from its lower half which features a distinctly human looking pair of legs and feet, which is a marked departure from the previous incarnation which had thick vines in place for legs - this now gives it as a huge boost to mobility and speed. The reason for this more human look is because human DNA was used to build the creature and explains why +YX is used in the name, as chromosomes in human DNA can be either an X or a Y.
