Ivy was a Zombie-plant hybrid which were created by Plant 43 which was the continuation of research into combining the t-Virus with plant material. Initially the research began with the development of Plant 42 in the Spencer Mansion - this ordinary plant was given the t-Virus; it grew massively in size and became a violent attacking plant. It was named Plant 42 as it grew in a room named point 42.

Plant 43 began development in NEST under stricter laboratory conditions. At first it was well maintained and was a successful experiment, but after the t-Virus outbreak of Raccoon City it became overgrown and unmanageable. It began attacking and killing scientists and displayed immense strength, even throwing one against a wall.

Then, it learned to transform Zombies into its own brethren named Ivys. The mutant plant material would infest the entire body, with twisting vines holding the dead body together and manoeuvring it like a puppet. These acted as a mobile form for Plant 43 - and in fact it could operate as many of these as there were bodies to infect -
Although the creatures could continue to exist and operate with limited capacity without Plant 43.

The vines throughout its body were able to tap into various systems of the human body such as the nervous system so it could respond to touch, as well as the vocal cords as they could be heard making sounds. Their most effective means of attack was the ambush - they could camouflage themselves amongst other greenery by hiding within plants or by 'playing dead' on the ground.

They appeared to be indestructible as if one was eliminated, Plant 42 could simply re-implant the corpse and bring the creature back. However they were weak against fire and also has several weak points across their body which resembled orange bulbs.

After Plant 43 was destroyed with the P-Epsilon Herbicide, a few Ivys remained but were ultimately destroyed by an explosion after the NEST facility was razed by a self-destruct mechanism. As they were simply an unforeseen side effect of Plant 43's growth, no future Ivys have ever developed.

Please note, this enemy type did not appear in the original Resident Evil 2.
