Plant 43 (named
Ivy in some games but is unrelated to the
Zombie-plant hybrid) was a
t-Virus infected plant which was entirely based on the research data obtained from the earlier
Plant 42 project which began in the
Spencer Mansion over in the Arklay Mountains. While
Plant 42 was certainly a stronger B.O.W. (Bio-Organic Weapon) it had far too many limitations to make it a worthwhile design; most importantly it was rooted to the ground.
With Plant 43, this limitation was overcome; the plant could now move around using vines as makeshift legs and they could also use the vines as a powerful whip to seriously harm their targets. Finally, it also had an ability to hurl a corrosive substance from it's plant-like head which causes damage and irritates the skin. Research was set to continue but unfortunately due to a
t-Virus outbreak on Sheena Island a number of prototypes were unleashed into the wild and later the island was destroyed. Further research was made into plant and
t-Virus hybrids but it took several years - it's thought that the results were far too unpredictable for it to be viable as a sellable B.O.W.
Also, another variant of Plant 43 existed (named Poison
Ivy in some games) which had a slightly different colouration to distinguish itself from the other - and predictably it could also inflict the Poison status; which if not cured will slowly kill any human regardless of their previous health making them a very dangerous enemy indeed. These variants were initially the same as a regular Plant 43 but have since mutated.
