Evil Shade are the name given to plant bulbs which have become infected with the
t-Virus and have only ever been found in one specific area; in and around an old hospital situated in the Arklay Mountains, which was in the outskirts of Raccoon City (quite near where the
Spencer Mansion was situated).
They are part of a larger plant structure simply named the
Huge Plant, the Evil Shade itself resembles an orange bulb which is attached to the vines of the plant. The growth is seemingly random, not growing upwards or outwards at any recognisable rate. Some bulbs are bigger than others and have distinctive yellow boil-like components on their surface, and some (presumably older bulbs) are more 'open'. From a distance they appear rather harmless but when a perceived threat comes close, they will emit a small cloud of poisonous spores which damage the lungs when breathed in.
While the bulbs can be damaged, they simply enter an automatic 'wither' state and then eventually grow back to their full state. Otherwise, they can be sliced off with an axe or sprayed with a special chemical which will destroy them for good (fire and explosives work pretty good too).
When an Evil Shade dies, the rest of the
Huge Plant is not affected, it simply loses some offensive capability.
