The Viper is a type venomous
Snake which are often found resting in wooden crates in and around a Spanish settlement run by the
Los Illuminados. They are encountered by
Leon S. Kennedy during his mission there to find and rescues
Ashley Graham and is often ambushed by them as he breaks down yellow-marked boxes which would usually contain some kind of helpful resource.
If startled by
Leon, they will brace for a few moments and then lash out, biting
Leon and then attempting to slither away. If he is fast enough,
Leon can slash or shoot it to kill it before it attacks.
They also appear throughout the swamp-like
Fish farm area out in the open (and can even swim under shallow water), and have also been spotted in laboratory areas - which leads to the assumption that they may have been considered for
Plaga injection at some stage.
The Merchant takes an interest in the Viper as they start to appear, leading him to post a request named 'Viper Hunter', and offers to trade
Leon some spinels in exchange for selling him 3 dead Viper specimens. Each Viper can be sold for 1,000 Peseta. Or,
Leon can also eat them at a push as long as he removes the poison gland first.
Based on the location, the creature is most likely a Seoane's Viper, which is a dangerous venomous type of Viper which exist throughout Northern Spain and parts of France.
