The Piranha is a freshwater Fish which is famed for its sharp, barb-like teeth and appetite. They are designed to tear at flesh and are extremely aggressive.
Due to their nature, it was only a matter of time where they would accidentally become infected by the t-Virus. Some were gathered by cartel member Javier Hidalgo who used them as a punishment to those who were against him. He starved them to the point where their hunger and aggression were at their maximum.
They appeared to be largely unchanged physically from a regular Piranha apart from their scales which were now split by various openings. Interestingly, they could also survive on land for a short period of time and maintain their aggression.
However, they were still fairly weak and not at all resilient compared to most t-Virus infected. It's likely that Umbrella Corporation experimented on the Piranha at some stage due to their natural pedigree. Unfortunately they were never developed, with the company preferring focus more on larger sea creatures such as the Neptune.
