The
Zombie Hornbill were ordinary Great Indian Hornbills which became afflicted with the
t-Virus through accidental means; the virus was exposed to Raccoon City's water supply and caused an outbreak throughout. When the infected water reached the Raccoon Zoo, virtually all of its animals succumbed to it and were transformed into Zombies.
When they became infected with the
t-Virus, they only changed very slightly. Unlike most afflicted creatures, they did not increase in size or display any outward features such as necrotising skin. However, they did become extremely aggressive and bloodthirsty, much like the
Crow which were commonly encountered throughout Raccoon City and its surrounding areas.
Unfortunately for them, they are also very weak. One bullet is usually enough to kill one instantly. For this reason, Umbrella never considered them for an actual B.O.W. (Bio-Organic Weapon) project. In fact, birds are rarely used in their projects despite their flight capabilities being an advantage.
