The Siren

The Siren is the deafening and horrifying sound that signals that the transition from the real world to the Otherworld is occurring. The sound is identical to a wartime air-raid siren which were used in built up areas to ensure the population got to safety underground, or be bombarded by enemy fire and bombs. Sirens like these were also used in other emergencies where authorities needed an area to be cleared.

It is theorised that the Siren exists because Alessa Gillespie lost her humanity in a blaze during wartime and as such the sound of the siren is a constant reminder to her of her initial pain and suffering - thus she uses the siren to share that pain with others.
