Leon S. Kennedy encounters them occasionally during his mission to find and rescue Ashley Graham from an area in northern Spain. They are well-hidden due to the fact that in most cases, Leon has a large and relatively open area to find them. Also, in most cases Leon must backtrack in order to find them.
A total of three can be found throughout his adventure and each one has the effect of a combined Yellow Herb, in which it will recover his health along with increasing it by a small portion. Or, they can be sold to The Merchant for a relatively high price of 10,000 Pesetas.
The Rhinoceros Beetle does not appear in the original Resident Evil 4.
