Marguerite Baker was the wife of
Jack Baker and also the mother of
Zoe Baker and
Lucas Baker respectively. She lived on a large homestead in Dulvey, Louisiana – which consisted of a large mansion, a separate guest house, a smaller home named the Old House and expansive gardens consisting of a plantation with adjacent swampland.
Before the events of Resident Evil 7, Marguerite was the ideal housewife who would stop at nothing to provide for her family and support her local community; but all that would change over the coming weeks.
She gradually became infected with a fungal substance known as Mold – onset when an experimental Bio-Organic Weapon named
Eveline (E-001) caused a shipwreck near her home during a hurricane in 2014 and when her husband Jack went to the site to investigate, he brought back
Eveline and her handler
Mia Winters assuming they were innocent victims of the crash.
However,
Eveline was extremely powerful and could control the minds of those infected with Mold, and even alter their physical attributes with mutation and grant her thralls with supernatural powers.
When Marguerite first started to suspect something was wrong in her mind, she visited her doctor who subsequently X-Ray'd her skull and they found traces of Mold. As this substance was unknown the doctor released her and most likely offered standard anti-biotics as a treatment. Unfortunately,
Eveline's hold soon became too strong and the Mold allowed her to take over Marguerite completely. What
Eveline wanted the Bakers to do was have as many as possible in her own "family" – and to do this they needed to bring people into her area of influence where they could be infected with Mold.
When Marguerite and her family were eventually taken over by
Eveline and the Mold, they disappeared from civil life, only venturing out into the wilds to capture potential subjects to convert into creatures called
Molded – for this process to occur the person would need to be killed and then processed, which was mainly Jack's role. Marguerite mainly cooked the organs and body parts harvested from the victims and as well as feeding the family, she fed them to other victims which also improved chances of becoming
Molded.
Marguerite became very protective over her food production and consumption. For example, both
Clancy Jarvis and
Ethan Winters refused to eat her meals when she attempted to feed them and she was extremely surprised and then became very distressed both times, even screaming while storming out of the room when Ethan refused.
Ethan later encountered Marguerite in the Old House, where he found that she was fairly mutated and had telepathic control over large flying insects which had the strength to harm him. She was extremely attached to her lantern which may be to do with her insect mutation (most insects follow light sources around as the use the biggest light source – usually the sun or the moon - for direction). The lantern was also used to unlock a door, behind which was an item called a D-Series Arm which had the ability to counteract
Eveline's Mold. Back when Marguerite was first infected, she decided to keep the item safe so that
Eveline would remain untouchable.
However, Marguerite and Ethan entered one-on-one combat and she appeared even more monstrous with elongated limbs which flexed in un-natural ways, and a disgusting growth between her legs – which served as a weak point. When she became sufficiently weakened, she retreated to a nearby Greenhouse but Ethan soon followed and continued his onslaught and eventually Marguerite succumbed to her injuries, rapidly calcified and died.
Although she had some regenerative abilities, hers were nothing like her husband Jacks – who could reawaken and mutate repeatedly, she herself could never recover.
