Joe Baker is the older brother of
Jack Baker.
He grew up with his brother, often fighting with each other as children. As he matured he decided to join the military and when he returned as a hardened fighter, he found it difficult to return to civilian lifestyle and eventually became somewhat of a hermit, rarely venturing out from his home and also failing to keep in contact with the rest of his family.
He was the only member of the Baker family not to descend into madness due to
Eveline's control, as he lived off-site in the marshland whereas the rest of the family lived together in a large enclosed property.
In fact, he lived such a secluded lifestyle that he was blissfully unaware of the family's predicament until quite a time after
Ethan Winters came to rescue his missing wife
Mia Winters from the property, was forced to eliminate Jack, his wife
Marguerite Baker, experimental Bio-Organic Weapon
Eveline and sometime later
Chris Redfield with his Blue Umbrella team put down their son
Lucas Baker with only
Zoe Baker remaining – only she had become partially calcified by
Eveline.
Once Blue Umbrella had secured the Baker property, the Mold which
Eveline had control over began to spread wildly throughout adjacent areas, including the swampland where Joe made his home. This led the group to set up a new perimeter, blocking any access in or out of the swamp area. As Joe lived a secluded lifestyle, he was unfamiliar with Mold and the
Molded creatures which were spawned by it and simply took them on in hand-to-hand combat without a second thought as to what they were.
Eventually Joe happened upon his niece
Zoe Baker in a partially calcified state, surrounded by two Blue Umbrella soldiers. Joe instantly recognised the Umbrella logo, but this was not the same company that caused so much pain and destroyed many societies – that company was dead, and this was a brand-new company set up to be the direct opposite. He did not know this however and turned hostile, attacking them and subsequently capturing one thinking they caused all of these problems he was now facing.
After some time, he learned that a cure was nearby for Zoe's condition and he set off to try and find it. Battling through more
Molded with his bare fists, he found the cure and returned to give it to his niece. However just one dose was not enough and that's all he could find. The Blue Umbrella solider who was now his prisoner informed him that he could obtain some more from his base which was nearby, but before he could finish a powerful creature named the Swamp Man tore through a wall, ripped his body in two and attempted to engage Joe, who quickly escaped on a nearby boat with Zoe.
Unfortunately, the Blue Umbrella base was found to be completely overrun by the Mold and its creatures, including
Molded alligators – upon exploring the area some more he again encountered the Swamp Man who continued to stalk Joe while he attempted to find a way to create a more powerful cure for Zoe. He eventually found a way to make the cure but again the Swamp Man interfered – this time Joe decided to take the creature on in hand-to-hand combat and once he weakened it enough, he pulled its head right off and the creature dropped to the floor.
When Joe returned to Zoe, the Swamp Man had returned and was waiting for him. The creature kidnapped her and broke through the quarantine that Blue Umbrella had set up, escaping to an old, derelict and unoccupied chapel named the Dulvey Parish Church. In this area, the Swamp Man managed to ambush Joe, causing them both to enter one-on-one combat once again. Joe used his tried and true methods to beat the creature as he had done once before, only this time when he tried to pull it's head off, he simply removed an outer layer of rotten Mold revealing the creature to be none other than a revived
Jack Baker, who clearly had extraordinary regenerative powers as he managed to re-build his body several times, even without
Eveline's influence. The absolute shock of seeing his brothers face caused Joe to hesitate which gave Jack the opportunity to deliver a knock-out punch, only for Joe to re-awaken later in a coffin, where he could see the distorted form of his brother kicking the coffin towards the edge of the water.
Jack pushed the coffin down into the water, intending for his brother to die. However, he luckily washed up on the shore near the now-unoccupied Baker residence and could hear Blue Umbrella over the radio struggling with Jacks sudden appearance, who had now reached his old home himself and began attacking the solider directly. Joe got up from his coffin and progressed through to the residence and managed to find a cybernetic gauntlet named the Advanced Multi-purpose Gauntlet (AMG-78) – this weapon was extremely powerful and had the strength to knock down a reinforced steel door as well as virtually any
Molded in one punch.
Once he reached the main lobby of the mansion which was now completely covered floor to ceiling with protective layers and equipment, he reunited with Zoe who was sitting in a chair but was quickly ambushed by Jack once again, but with his new 'toy', several charged up punches to the face wore him down, with Joe reminiscing of all the times that he and Jack fought as children, and eventually he brought him to his knees, and delivered one charged punch to the face, punching him so hard that his face crumpled and his eye flew out of it's socket, and then flinging his entire body back, killing him for the very last time, where it then rapidly calcified.
As soon as Jack had been eliminated, Joe swiftly administered the rest of the cure to Zoe and the Blue Umbrella team arrived with their leader
Chris Redfield who moved everybody into a makeshift lab tent nearby and monitored everybody's condition. Thankfully Zoe had been cured and the calcification had reversed.
