E-001 is a prototype E-Type Bio-Organic Weapon (B.O.W.) created by The Connections with some assistance from the HCF (
Albert Wesker's Umbrella rival) who were both researching the possibility of a B.O.W. which could control others, most likely using research based off the
Plaga from the recent infestations in Spain and West Africa, which had similar abilities but required physically implanting parasitic embryos into hosts.
This prototype was code-named Eveline, and was created by infecting a human embryo with a substance called Mold which was a unique weaponised fungus also developed by The Connections. Unfortunately due to the way it was created, the ageing process was rapid as the developers wanted the product to resemble a 10 year old in a matter of months. However this had an unintended catastrophic effect on the mental development of the creature which caused it to be much more unpredictable than envisioned.
Through the Mold, the creature was able to control anything that interacted with it and could induce hallucinations as well as control them directly in some cases. It was also able to control the Mold as well as produce more as required. It could also cause Mold inside a subject to multiply exponentially which kills them and eventually turns them into a monster known as
Molded - these creatures could also 'naturally' spawn from large quantities of Mold also. Eveline wished to have a family of her own and the only way to do that in her twisted mind was to forcibly control them.
Famously Eveline managed to control an entire family when the ship she was on crashed near their home due to a hurricane. Eveline managed to kill her handler Alan and take control of his replacement,
Mia Winters. Moments later she was 'rescued' by
Jack Baker who brought her into his home. Then she began exploring her abilities more, by controlling
Jack Baker,
Marguerite Baker and
Lucas Baker where possible in order for them to do her bidding. At first this process was slow and often her control would be lost, and the family wondered what happened in the intervening time when they weren't in control.
However eventually the control was perfected, and Jack, Marguerite and most of the time Lucas were enthralled. This turned the family into monsters, who killed innocent people, ate their body parts and due to the Mold, they even gained supernatural abilities such as rapid recovery from injuries and horrific mutations - under Eveline's control they also appeared insane. Their home became a breeding ground for Mold and the
Molded creatures. Over the next three years Eveline aged rapidly due to the way she was created and eventually took the appearance of a super advanced aged woman who required a wheelchair and could not move unassisted. She could move her head freely, as she liked to keep an eye on the people around her.
Mia Winters was also controlled occasionally, but her strength kept her from being Eveline's thrall for too long. Notably when her husband
Ethan Winters came to find her, she tried to kill him on various occasions when the B.O.W. took over.
As with most experimental B.O.W.s a product was developed which could counter-act the creature, named E-Necrotoxin (Eveline-Necrotoxin). This was created using tissue samples taken from Eveline when she was first created. The product had to be injected directly into the subject, and once this happened all mind control abilities were broken and her body could no longer be sustained - but Eveline still had influence over the Mold and managed to create a new body for herself which did not resemble a human, but a more desperate looking beast.
Blue Umbrella also developed a fungus-fighting type of 9mm ammunition called Anti-Regen Ammo (RAMRODs) which had the ability to destroy Mold as it halted the regeneration process and also damaged it directly. This, along with the E-Necrotoxin finally put an end to E-001. Mold still persisted in the area, with the occasional
Molded creature but Eveline was gone.
