Vincent Goldman was perhaps one of the more evil Umbrella scientists - he had a reputation for his outright ruthless nature; he was quite happy to crush and run over anyone in his way in order to progress through the company - even murdering those who continued to impede him.
He managed to work his way up to Commander of Sheena Island which was an offshore Umbrella research facility which also had a small community built up - which was secretly a project set up to allow him enough young 'donors' for his main Tyrant project - it involved extracting a 'fear hormone' which was available in larger quantities in children. This was then used to develop a unique tyrant eventually named a
Hypnos T-Type.
He began to lose influence on the island when he was seen executing teenage prisoners when they tried to escape; the population turned on him and he began plotting ways to protect himself from Umbrella - this involved him causing a large scale
t-Virus outbreak on the island and also releasing B.O.W.s (Bio-Organic Weapons) in order to wipe out the populace and protect his name.
When private detective
Ark Thompson appeared on the island to investigate the conditions on the island by his friend
Leon S. Kennedy he assumed that he was sent there by the company. When Ark arrived several Umbrella
Under Taker units descended into the island in order to try and contain the outbreak which caused major confusion as to what was happening.
When Vincent and Ark finally encountered each other they led a short chase where Vincent only managed to grasp at Ark's
Dog tags from around his neck and eventually the two became unconscious from a helicopter accident. This led Ark to lose his memory and incorrectly assume that Vincent was actually named
Ark Thompson due to the
Dog tags on his person. For a while Ark scoured the area with amnesia and presumed that the other person was dead.
Vincent later awakened and managed to make his way to the Umbrella offices on the island; he then saw Ark was still alive by viewing him on CCTV cameras. Then he instructed the remainder of the islands powerful creatures to attack Ark and kill him.
When Ark survives, Vincent unleashes his personal project the
Hypnos T-Type on Ark - but the creature unexpectedly turns on him and kills Vincent. After his death the creature turns to its next target and goes after Ark. The creature is eventually destroyed and the island self-destructs leaving Vincent and everything else on the island destroyed.
As
Resident Evil Survivor has various branching paths, it's entirely possible that Ark never encounters Vincent after the incident which leaves them unconscious. It is not known exactly which is canon but it's most likely continually encountering Vincent is the most appropriate storyline.
