Robert Kendo was owner of the Kendo Gun Shop in Raccoon City which he ran with his brother Joseph. He had ties with S.T.A.R.S. and was involved in customising weaponry to each members requirements.
He and his brother signed off on the Samurai Edge pistols which are now synonymous with S.T.A.R.S., as many members requested custom versions of the weapon.
He was married and had a 10 year old daughter named Emma who unfortunately became a victim of the Raccoon City
t-Virus outbreak. Her mother was also infected and unfortunately could not survive.
Jill Valentine attempted to rescue him, but he preferred to stay behind with his daughter until she turned, so they could spend maximum time together as a family.
The next day after Jill saw him,
Leon Kennedy and
Ada Wong encountered him and his daughter. Noticing that she was infected, Ada tried to kill her prematurely but both
Robert and
Leon stopped her as they could not allow that to happen in this way.
Later,
Robert reluctantly killed his daughter in order to save her from becoming a
Zombie, and soon after killed himself as he had nothing left.
Robert Kendo was based on a character named John from Resident Evil 1.5 (A cancelled version of
Resident Evil 2). The model is exactly the same.
In the original
Resident Evil 2,
Robert encounters
Leon at the beginning of the game and gets killed by zombies shortly after. In the remake, they meet much later in the game and his character is much more fleshed out.
He does not appear in the
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, but he appears in Resident Evil 3 Remake.
The starting weapon in
Resident Evil 4, The Silver Ghost, is also a Kendo-made weapon. Most likely made by Joseph Kendo, as
Robert and his family had passed.
You can play as
Robert in the No Time To Mourn scenario in the
Resident Evil 2 Remake DLC "The Ghost Survivors"
