Forest Speyer was a member of S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics And Rescue Service) which was an elite police team that operated from Raccoon City. His role was as a sharpshooter and a computer expert for the Bravo team. He held a keen rivalry with fellow S.T.A.R.S. member
Chris Redfield which went back many years.
Before S.T.A.R.S., Forest was a military man - he was commended for his excellent sniper skills and also his perfectionism when it came to completing all of his tasks and going above and beyond where he felt necessary. After his tours were over he joined S.T.A.R.S. along with Chris as well as other ex-soldiers.
One fateful day, he and the rest of his team were dispatched to the Arklay Mountains which were nearby their home base to respond to reports of cannibalism and other strange murders happening. Whilst they were on the scene their helicopter developed an unusual catastrophic engine failure which caused them to land in an unsafe area. The team pressed ahead on the ground whilst the pilot stayed behind to check why their machine fell out of the sky. As it was night, they only had limited visibility and eventually they encountered monsters such as the
Cerberus which chased them through the forested area they were in, past some Zombies and eventually the team split up. Some stayed behind in the forest such as
Rebecca Chambers, but others including Forest made it to a building which turned out to be the
Spencer Mansion - an Umbrella owned building which sat on top of a secret scientific research centre called NEST.
Forest spent most of his time alone in the mansion, fighting the many creatures along the way. He met his end when he began to explore a terrace which he accessed via the second floor of the main entrance of the building. It was here where he was startled by many infected crows which attacked him and infected him with the
t-Virus. He was later found dead by his colleague
Barry Burton as well as
Jill Valentine who remarked that he must have been pecked to death - and moments later the same crows came back to attack the two S.T.A.R.S. members - only this time they were killed.
After examining Forrest's body closely, Barry realised that he had a functional grenade launcher on him which he decided he should hand to Jill. The two remain absolutely shocked about his death however. It's also possible that his body would later re-animate as a
Zombie due to his
t-Virus infection.
