The Truck Driver (not named in any of the games) was one of the first characters introduced in
Resident Evil 2. He was making his way through Raccoon City and unbeknownst to him, a
t-Virus outbreak had just occurred which turned almost all of it's citizens into zombies.
Initially there was a military blockade preventing travel through the city but this was either unheeded or had collapsed due to the severity of the outbreak which is how he managed to enter the city. In the original
Resident Evil 2 he is bitten by a
Zombie that tries to enter his truck cab, and in
Resident Evil 2 (Remake) he thought he hit a pedestrian, but it turned out to be a
Zombie which took him by surprise when they got back up from the road and then bit him.
Either way, he continues his journey irritated and annoyed at the fact that somebody bit him but soon begins to feel unwell and eventually succumbs to the
t-Virus and becomes a
Zombie behind the wheel. In terms of speed he is one of the quickest cases where a bite turns a human into a
Zombie - virtually a few minutes.
In the end he dies in a fiery explosion when his truck collides with a gas tanker in the Raccoon City shopping district, and this scenario is what begins
Resident Evil 2.
The Truck Driver and his fate is re-imagined in the recent Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City movie which fuses the storylines of the first and second games. In the movie he picks up Claire on the road, collides with a
Zombie on his way in which he doesn't get bit but instead his
Dog feasts on the corpse, which leads it to slowly transform and then later infect his old master.
