Del Lago, literally meaning "From the Lake" in Spanish was one of the earliest experiments conducted by the Los Illuminados who were researching the parasite known as Las Plagas which could either benefit their host with great strength or horribly mutate them into monsters. By introducing the parasite to a regular Salamander, a mixture of both of the above occurred in Del Lago.

First, it grew massively in size and it's skin toughened and became more scaly. Then, at a point it's legs stopped growing in relation to the rest of it's body and it became a fully aquatic creature. Finally, it lost the use of it's eyes and became a ferocious beast with senses purely based on sound and vibration. It's mouth resembled a basking shark but with many many sharp teeth, and also it's mouth contained a swirling mass of parasitic tentacles which it could retract when required.

It was housed in a lake quite near a swamp and The Village, an unknown area in Spain. It's presence was familiar with the villagers who brought it sources of food such as dead humans and failed experiments - both to keep the creature alive and for a convenient disposal method. One of Del Lago's final meals was a dead Spanish police officer who accompanied US Special Agent Leon S. Kennedy to the area who was on a mission to locate the missing US President's daughter, Ashley Graham. His body was thrown into the lake by two villagers named Diego and Esteban.

Leon had to get across the lake at one point during his mission and as such, Del Lago had to be neutralised. Luckily, there was a motor boat anchored at the lake as well as a substantial amount of harpoons and a tether which was everything required to dispatch the beast.

Del Lago was a powerful hunter and knew it's environment very well, and while Leon was able to defeat it by throwing a number of harpoons into it, it did not go down without a fight and consistently pulled the boat into harms way and even at times submerged itself under the water, creating a few moments of calm only to then suddenly charge at Leon at an extraordinary speed.

Also, after the beast was defeated an incident occurred where the tether attaching Leon's boat to it became tangled around Leon's ankle, dragging him down to the bottom of the lake where it was starting to sink. Fortunately, Leon was able to quickly grab his knife and cut the tether. Afterwards, Del Lago sank to the lake bed where it became Fish food. Presumably the parasite also perished - if not, it's possible whatever fed on the creatures corpse could become infected.

Interestingly, if Leon were to shoot at the water from the shoreline, Del Lago would make an early appearance and attempt to swallow him with a single bite.
