The Vulture is a large flying bird which tend to fly in small groups which then surround and feed on fresh corpses. The sight of them in the air is usually a clear indicator that there is something dead ahead (albeit in the Resident Evil universe, that is not a huge surprise to anyone).
When the B.S.A.A. were tracking the Uroboros Virus, their adventures took them through several areas, some of which had Vultures flying overhead in a circle formation. Interestingly, they all kept their distance - presumably hoping for them to be killed so that they could have an easy meal. It may be that they could detect an infected person as they also chose not to feed on any fallen Majini.
While not known 100%, it is assumed that these Vultures were run-of-the-mill local vermin and not infected in any way.
The Vultures can be shot down, which strangely leads the others in the formation to react very little. Interestingly enough, some drop shiny objects such as gold coins.
