Garrador were a type of experimental elite warrior implanted with a Plaga, a type of parasitic organism which can alter the mind and body of it's hosts in various ways. In these cases they were developed as berserk juggernauts with man-made claws attached to their arms, making them indiscriminate killers with the sole aim of clawing anything it could find. Due to their ferocity, their eyes were surgically closed shut and their Plaga evolved around this disadvantage by enhancing it's hosts hearing.

Interestingly their transformation by the Plaga seems to be mostly in the mind, their bodies had adapted extraordinarily well, with no discernible physical traits of an infection. All of their augmentations had been attached to them after implantation. It is likely the Garrador was one of the most promising leaps forward in the Plaga experiments.

They were held in cells and bound to walls in order to protect others from their indiscriminate attacks. They were relatively idle unless it heard something nearby in which they could break from its bounds and charge at it's prey. As it could not see it hunted its prey only using sound cues, although very loud sounds such as explosions or ringing bells disrupted its senses and caused it great agony, exposing its Plaga which was implanted on its back. This was when the Garrador was in its weakest state and would have a been defeated by using these tactics. It would have been very unwise to attempt to battle one in direct combat.

When translated from Spanish, Garrador loosely means "The Clawer". When used as a plural, Garradores is used. Leon S. Kennedy, Ashley Graham and Ada Wong encounter various types of them throughout the rescue mission in Spain, including one variety which wears a suit of armour.

Due to its long three-clawed gauntlets, Garradores have a passing resemblance to Vega/M.Bison (name depending on region) from the Street Fighter beat-em-up series also by Capcom, the creators of Resident Evil.

In the Resident Evil 4 Remake, the Garrador battle has been re-worked so that the combat area is much tighter and so there is far less room between Leon and the creature itself. While the general tactics appear to be the same, there is far more emphasis put on the player to use stealth and stab the exposed Plaga parasite on its back.
