Armadura

Armadura (translates to Armour) is a Plaga infected suit of armour which resides in Ramon Salazar's castle.

The leading theory of their existence is that the Plagas once belonged to former hosts and were looking for dark, protective places to inhabit while they waited for a new host to arrive. After time, they preferred the conditions of the armour and chose to remain there, becoming a new type of creature.

They are initially passive when Leon S. Kennedy and Ashley Graham approach, however when the two are split up they suddenly spring into action and attempt to capture Ashley (it is presumed that Osmund Saddler directs the Plaga to activate and pursue her).

The Plaga appears to have grown throughout the armour in the form of a rudimentary body which allows it to move around in a convincingly human way. They are even able to swing swords. Their only weak points are the pieces of parasitic flesh which appear from the side of their heads (similar to a Ganado Desnucado) as well as small sections which are visible between the pieces of armour. They can also be severely damaged with Grenades.

Read more.. Interestingly, if enough damage is caused to the Plaga, it will sprout from the helmet into a form which resembles the Plaga Guadaña.

Like all Plaga, Armadura are weak against strong sources of light - but they are only stunned by this. After a period of stillness, they will resume the attack.

Famously, Ashley Graham was forced to sneak around many Armadura in the darkness after being separated from Leon. On the way, she managed to find a lantern which had the ability to stagger the Armadura if she pointed it directly at them. However, she had nothing to actually kill them so she was forced to run.

If somehow the Plaga is killed, their bodies quickly dissolve into biomass and then nothing, which causes the now-empty armour to fall to the ground.

Armadura (Strong Threat)

Armadura (Strong Threat) as a unique variant of the Armadura creature, which is a suit of armour that has been infested with a Plaga parasite. Over time, the Plaga has been allowed to mature in the cold, dark suit which eventually gave it the ability to control it.

The Merchant posts a bounty to have the creature destroyed - it has made its home in one of the lower levels of the castle.

Leon S. Kennedy encounters the creature alongside two normal Armadura. It is much taller than the standard creature and wears solid gold armour - however it seems to move around in exactly the same way. Interestingly, there is a small opening in the helmet in which two glowing orange eyes can be seen, looking out. One key advantage it has over its regular brethren is the location of the Plaga - it is located on the back of the neck which means Leon cannot critically harm it from the front without wasting lots of ammo.

The creature wields an enormous, heavy broadsword which it will use against Leon, holding it aloft for a few moments before sending it crashing down.

Read more.. It's main disadvantage, much like the regular Armadura is its slow speed. For example, if Leon were to run around to face the back of the creature it will be forced to slowly turn around in a small circle - this gives Leon more than enough time to formulate another tactic or reload his weapon.

Once enough damage is caused, the Plaga will burst from the helmet which resembles the Plaga Guadaña form. In this form, it continues to use the broadsword as before.

After the Plaga is killed, the armour will crash to the ground and the biological material dissolves completely.

Leon can then return to The Merchant and gains some Spinels as a reward for eliminating the threat.

regenerador-4r.jpg
Regenerador

The Regenerador (Sometimes incorrectly referred to as the Regenerator) was a Bio-Organic Weapon (B.O.W.) created by the Los Illuminados cult by experimenting with implanting multiple Plaga parasites onto a single human host. How the host body reacted to the experimentation was quite a surprise - their bodies perpetually healed and regenerated (hence the name) - even entire limbs could be quickly regrown in moments.

As this was quite a leap forward in Plaga research, quite a few were produced as it's healing properties were an extremely valuable aspect. However, they suffered from a large drop in intelligence and mobility making them rather similar to the t-Virus infected humans known as Zombies such as the ones from the Raccoon City incident.

They appeared to have developed a unique physiology where their internal organs and skeleton had both been dramatically altered, giving them increased flexibility and protection from internal damage. For example if their head were destroyed, it would have simply grown back in moments as the brain was far less vital. Their skin was thick and pale with a rough texture, they also had extended fingers and their mouths were large with many spiked teeth.

Read more.. The remaining Regeneradores were held in cold storage by the Los Illuminados following the experiments, research and autopsies on their creations. Leon S. Kennedy happened upon all of these specimens when he passed through their lab whilst on a mission to rescue Ashley Graham, the then-US Presidents daughter.

The many Plaga implanted in their bodies were their only weak points - and destroying all of them was the only way to defeat one. In general there were around two to five parasites in their bodies. They could be seen when close to the creature although Leon managed to locate an Infrared Scope which was a device that allowed him to see exactly where the Plaga were on the body. Once they were defeated, their upper body exploded in a shower of fluids - only the legs remained, dead.

The Iron Maiden B.O.W. was a similar monster created by the cult, developed using the same kind of research. It could not regenerate limbs but it had a devastating array of spikes across it's body which it could deploy and retract. Also, the Molded monsters from Resident Evil 7 have a striking resemblance to the Regenerador.

In the Resident Evil 4 Remake, Regeneradores are more bloated in appearance and have a tendency to slither across the floor when engaging with Leon in battle. Parts of their flesh can be blown off, occasionally revealing glowing hearts underneath. Destroying these will cause the regeneration effect to fail and the creature will then shake erratically (they will still attempt to engage even at this stage), followed by an explosion of their entire upper body. Moments later, their legs will also explode.

iron-maiden-4r.jpg
Iron Maiden

The Iron Maiden was created seemingly by accident after the creation of the B.O.W. (Bio-Organic Weapon) named a Regenerador. The original creature was developed by Los Illuminados scientists (including Luis Serra Navarro, an ex-Umbrella Corporation employee) - they were researching the Plaga parasite (known as Las Plagas within the Los Illuminados). Their main goal was finding a way to monetise the Plaga for use throughout the world.

Initially, the Iron Maiden is a Regenerador - which is a human mutant which has the ability to regenerate itself to a staggering degree because their body has extra parasitic hearts, brought on by the Plaga in their bodies. They can regenerate any lost body part, including the head. Once all of these hearts have been destroyed, the Regenerador will usually begin to fail, where its body will start to convulse and pulse wildly.

After that point, the Regenerador usually dies in an explosion of biomass. However, sometimes they will mutate into an Iron Maiden. The body stays the same size, but their skin becomes more lean and toughened. They also become littered with extremely long, thin spikes all over their bodies.

Read more.. In their Iron Maiden forms, they retain their surprising speed, as well as their regenerative abilities. Their weak points are their heads, which now feature a glowing organ behind their mouths. Therefore, consistent and powerful headshots are required to destroy them.

In combat, they move very swiftly and will sometimes slide along the floor, making precise shots somewhat difficult. If one gets too close to one, they will push themselves into their attackers, impaling them with their many spikes. So, great care must be taken to ensure that distance is always maintained in battle.

After the organ in their head is destroyed, their bodies will explode which launches their spikes in all directions, causing damage to anything close by.

In the original Resident Evil 4, the Iron Maiden is considered a separate, but related creature to the Regenerador and not a mutation.

iron-maiden-strong-threat.jpg
Iron Maiden (Strong Threat)

The Iron Maiden (Strong Threat) is an advanced, unique variant of the Iron Maiden, which is a mutated version of a Regenerador who has lost all of their additional parasitic hearts. Known as 'The Wandering Dead' by The Merchant, this creature is much stronger and unpredictable than a regular one - an extremely unsettling thing considering that even a regular Iron Maiden is formidable.

The creature appears in the incubation area of the underground laboratory - a location which houses Regeneradores in some kind of suspended animation. It is an area Leon S. Kennedy has to backtrack to in order to encounter the monster.

Visually, they look like a normal Iron Maiden but with a much darker skin tone with a slightly rougher looking texture.

When Leon and the creature meet, it is flanked by a few Regeneradores and they will all attempt to kill him at the same time. Although keeping back is the best course of action, caution must be maintained at all times as the Iron Maiden has the ability to effectively close in almost instantly, due to the fact it can extend its limbs and impale their prey with spikes.

Read more.. When engaging with the creature, it is advised to utilise the Biosensor Scope attached to an appropriate weapon such as the LE 5 submachine gun - this will allow the user to pinpoint weak points and take it down more productively. However, it must be said that looking through the scope also leaves the user open to attack from the sides or behind - so use caution. On the Iron Maiden the main weak point is in their heads, just behind their teeth.

Once defeated, it will fall to the ground and explode, showering the vicinity with spikes which launch from its corpse.

crow-4r.png
Crow

The crow is a dangerous animal where t-Virus and other types of outbreaks occurred as they tended to consume infected flesh and become carriers. When a crow becomes infected themselves they don't display many typical physical changes associated with the virus - but their aggression is markedly increased as well as their strength; particularly their pecking power.

At best an uninfected crow is capable of causing small injuries such as cuts and bruises, but a t-Virus infected crow is capable of killing an otherwise fit and healthy human being. In particular those encounters at the Spencer Mansion tended to attack in large groups, smashing through glass as if it were paper and attacking their target.

In other cases regular crows were observed consuming dead bodies in the where parasitic Plaga had taken over. They did not seem to be afflicted with the parasite however, but they did carry objects on them such as money or even hand grenades or boxes of handgun ammunition which they must have taken a liking to and stole.

Finally, crows also were present in Dulvey, Louisiana - seemingly unaffected by the Mold in the area. However one met an unfortunate end as it was found to have been cooked alive in the microwave of the Baker family's guest house. It's unlikely this was done for food - most likely for a sick joke.

chicken-4r.jpg
Chicken

The almighty chicken has often been called the saviour of modern society. These domesticated creatures are bred mainly by farmers for their eggs and their meat. They are relatively straightforward livestock to take care of and are a reliable source of sustenance for a majority of animals including humans. They are also fairly intelligent in which they can react to danger and also defend themselves where necessary. In earlier times they were used for entertainment in the form of cockfighting, but these days that kind of activity has become frowned upon as it can be seen as a form of animal cruelty.

On that note, the chickens in the Resident Evil series are nothing more than egg factories that can also be killed. Chickens in the games generally drop four different kinds of eggs at random intervals. If killed, there is a chance the chicken will drop one final egg, but after this they vanish and do not respawn.

The most common eggs a chicken will drop are the White Egg or Brown Egg, giving a 50% health recovery and a 25% health recovery respectively. If you're lucky you can also get a Golden Egg, which fully replenishes health but they can also be sold for many times more than a regular Brown Egg. In Resident Evil 5 chickens can also drop the Rotten Egg which can also be sold for a hefty amount. This egg can be eaten by the player but it is not recommended as it can put your character in a Danger state automatically.

Read more.. All Eggs can also be thrown as a distraction to the enemy, or to just inconvenience them. However a Rotten Egg will cause damage, and it's even possible to kill regular enemies with one.

The Chicken also briefly appears in Resident Evil 6 and while they can be killed, there is no benefit to doing so. It's also worth pointing out that none of the chickens seen in the series appear to be infected with any strain of Virus seen so far.

rat-4r.jpg
Rat

A rat is a rodent considered to be vermin in most settings as they are often thought to be a vector for the spread of diseases, although in some cases they are domesticated as pets. They also have a historical use in the world of science, as rats and mice are often used in experimentation.

While Infected Rats were found throughout Raccoon City, the large majority of rats are uninfected and behave as they would normally. They have been known to appear in combat areas such as West Africa - and while they are very skittish and harmless, they can still be killed and sometimes they will drop resources.

Their inclusion in the games in their uninfected forms are merely to add ambience to specific areas.

pig-4r.jpg
Pig

The Pig is a farm animal which are commonly raised for their meat, as well as their uncanny ability to find truffles in the ground.

Leon S. Kennedy encounters several pigs throughout his time looking for Ashley Graham in a region of Spain, with most of them found in the Windmill Farm area, between the main village square and the Village Chief's estate. They don't appear to be infected with Plaga and they can be safely ignored.

In fact, they appear to be extremely calm, even if there is gunfire - pigs can be seen loafing around, resting for several minutes before getting back up again and wandering around.

If Leon chooses to, he can kill them if he wishes - but this does not gain anything and actually irritates the other animals.

cow-4r.jpg
Cow

A cow is a farm animal which are raised to produce milk and eventually become beef for consumption. Although 'cow' technically refers to the female and the male is named a bull, both are referred to as a cow in the game. The males obviously do not produce any milk and so are only raised for their meat.

A single cow is encountered by Leon S. Kennedy when he enters a village square, during his mission to find and rescue Ashley Graham. The cow is situated in a special shed which has double doors at both ends, barely large enough to house the animal.

As Leon enters the village, he is eventually spotted by the locals (the Ganado) who come out in force attempting to kill him. The sudden influx of people running through the village, including a crazed, chainsaw-wielding man has the possibility of an oil lantern hanging from the ceiling of the shed being hit, which causes it to fall to the ground and set the cow on fire. The cow will then start to panic and thrash around until eventually it dies from the burns. It's also possible for some Ganado to be caught in the flames and die also.

Although rare, it is possible for the cow to survive and it remains in its shed until the evening, where a group of Colmillos will overwhelm it.

Read more.. There are also a handful of other cows in the windmill farm area - they are allowed to graze in a more open area and will happily do so along with pigs and chickens. It is possible for Leon to antagonise them (either accidentally or on purpose) which causes them to face him and attack.

Although they are a nuisance, it is best to simply keep distance and try not to antagonise them as killing them is wasteful.

viper.jpg
Viper

The Viper is a type venomous Snake which are often found resting in wooden crates in and around a Spanish settlement run by the Los Illuminados. They are encountered by Leon S. Kennedy during his mission there to find and rescues Ashley Graham and is often ambushed by them as he breaks down yellow-marked boxes which would usually contain some kind of helpful resource.

If startled by Leon, they will brace for a few moments and then lash out, biting Leon and then attempting to slither away. If he is fast enough, Leon can slash or shoot it to kill it before it attacks.

They also appear throughout the swamp-like Fish farm area out in the open (and can even swim under shallow water), and have also been spotted in laboratory areas - which leads to the assumption that they may have been considered for Plaga injection at some stage.

The Merchant takes an interest in the Viper as they start to appear, leading him to post a request named 'Viper Hunter', and offers to trade Leon some spinels in exchange for selling him 3 dead Viper specimens. Each Viper can be sold for 1,000 Peseta. Or, Leon can also eat them at a push as long as he removes the poison gland first.

Based on the location, the creature is most likely a Seoane's Viper, which is a dangerous venomous type of Viper which exist throughout Northern Spain and parts of France.

The similar Snake appears in the original Resident Evil 4.

bat-4r.jpg
Bat

The bat is a flying mammal that have evolved over millions of years and are the only mammal that are capable of sustained flight, and are popular in the western world with their association with vampires and evildoers.

Depending on the type of viral infection they have, bats can undergo various changes. Sometimes this means a simple increase in aggression and a guaranteed bloodthirstiness without any other noticeable differences in physiology, and other times the animal increases in size and displaying other t-Virus characteristics such as skin necrosis and grotesque muscle development.

The most common kind of bat becomes extremely aggressive towards humans, attacking in swarms which is quite unlike their uninfected brethren. However they do have an adversity to light, even a tiny light source such as from a Lighter is enough to prevent them from attacking.

Also, regular bats have also been encountered where there is no apparent viral infection, even in places where an outbreak has occurred perhaps demonstrating that bats do have an uncanny defence against the t-Virus. It's unknown whether Umbrella have ever used bats in their B.O.W. (Bio-Organic Weapon) research.

rhinoceros-beetle.jpg
Rhinoceros Beetle

The Rhinoceros Beetle is famed for being one of the largest and most powerful creatures in the insect world.

Leon S. Kennedy encounters them occasionally during his mission to find and rescue Ashley Graham from an area in northern Spain. They are well-hidden due to the fact that in most cases, Leon has a large and relatively open area to find them. Also, in most cases Leon must backtrack in order to find them.

A total of three can be found throughout his adventure and each one has the effect of a combined Yellow Herb, in which it will recover his health along with increasing it by a small portion. Or, they can be sold to The Merchant for a relatively high price of 10,000 Pesetas.

The Rhinoceros Beetle does not appear in the original Resident Evil 4.

beartrap-dog-4r.jpg
Dog

The dog is Leon's faithful ally who comes to his aid in a battle with an El Gigante in the quarry. The two first meet outside a large house - a narrow grassy area is littered with bear traps and unfortunately this dog found one of its rear legs had been caught by the trap and was unable to remove it.

Leon comes to its aid and pulls the trap apart, allowing the dog to free itself. It then glances back at him before proceeding to jump away into some bushes and is not seen or heard from again for some time.

During the El Gigante fight the dog appears after a while, charismatically introducing itself by howling at the top of a rock during a thunder strike and then proceeding to assist Leon in the fight. The dog begins to distract the creature which allowed Leon to shoot the Plaga on its back more freely.

After a while, the dog then lunges at the monster, biting and latching onto its ankle which causes it to lose its footing and crash backwards into a quarry wall, which then starts to collapse and then fall on top of it which causes immense damage. This also gives Leon another chance to attack the Plaga without much difficulty.

Read more.. At the end of the encounter, the dog disappears from view but its barks can still be heard.

Its possible to completely miss or ignore the dog.

Interestingly, Much earlier in his adventure, Leon approaches what appears to be the dog, attached to a bear trap already dead with crows pecking at its flesh. However, this was a red herring - the actual dog appears a while later where Leon can once again save the dog from a bear trap.

In the original Resident Evil 4, the dog appears in an earlier location and the way it interrupts the El Gigante fight is different. See: Beartrap Dog.
