Leon S. Kennedy
Voiced by Nick Apostolides

Leon Scott Kennedy is an American Federal Agent currently employed by the Division of Security Operations, where he works closely with matters of extreme National Security and bio terrorism. He began as a rookie police officer and through experience worked his way up through to the United States Department of Defense, working for US-SOCOM (United States Special Operations Command), and then US-STRATCOM (United States Strategic Command) and now the DSO, his most recent posting.

He graduated from the US Police academy at age 21 and specifically requested to be assigned to work for the Raccoon Police Department (RPD) as he wanted to help with any way he could regarding the Arklay Mountains murders and cannibalization reports which had become public information. His relationship broke down due to him wanting to move to a new city and through a night of drinking and a motel stay on the way, he woke feeling a little worse for wear and late for his very first day on the job.

(more info to come)

Mario F. Castano
Voiced by Mathias Retamal

Mario Fernandez Castano was a member of the Spanish Police and one of the two officers which were assigned to act as a guide and support for Leon S. Kennedy's mission to rescue 'Baby Eagle', otherwise known as Ashley Graham, the kidnapped daughter of the President of the United States.

At some point they left their vehicle and went on ahead of Leon, perhaps to gather information from the locals. Unfortunately, he and his colleague found themselves caught in the middle of a cult known as the Los Illuminados, who worshipped a parasite known as a Plaga (they referred to it as Las Plagas).

Mario was unfortunately captured by a hunter, brought into the basement of his lodge and then brutally murdered. It appears that he was strangled and then had his throat slit where he bled out in agony. Leon eventually finds his ID tag in the lodge and subsequently finds his dead corpse in a different room. On his body was a walkie-talkie which Leon picked up and attempted to call out to the other officer.

Read more.. It is assumed that Mario's body is later taken from the lodge and then given to the aquatic monster Del Lago as a meal later in the game.

While Leon did get a response, this was short lived as the other officer was quickly found out (perhaps due to the radio noise) then around 5-10 minutes after this, taken to the town square where he was brutally burned alive at the stake.

In the original Resident Evil 4, there are two Spanish cops (Beard Cop and Glasses Cop respectively) which accompany Leon in the opening scenes. Mario is likely an updated version of Beard Cop (but in this game, he only has a moustache).

Burned Cop
Voiced by Diego Stredel

Burned Cop is the tentative name for a member of the Spanish Police who was captured by villagers who were part of a cult named the Los Illuminados which worshipped a parasite known as a Plaga (referred to as Las Plagas by the cult). He was with a colleague, Mario Fernandez Castano and their assignment was to accompany American agent Leon S. Kennedy to a Spanish village where it was thought that daughter of the US President, Ashley Graham was being held after being kidnapped and brought overseas.

At some point Leon had separated from the cops who had gone on ahead, presumably to question the locals or to get directions. At some stage, he and his colleague were taken by the villagers, known as Ganado. While Mario was taken to a nearby hunter's lodge and brutally murdered, this unfortunate soul was brought to a small village, hoisted onto a stake above a bonfire and then burned alive. It took just a few moments for him to go into a shock and then die while his body burned. The Ganado which surrounded the bonfire appeared to be worshipping something as this occurred.

His name is not known at this point as Leon only managed to find the ID card of his colleague.

In the original Resident Evil 4, Burned Cop is known as Beard Cop and while he is also lit on fire in the village, he is already dead by that point. Interestingly, Burned Cop wears glasses, where in the original game, it is Glasses Cop which wears glasses and he is not the one which gets burned. So it appears that they may have switched roles.

Ashley Graham
Voiced by Genevieve Buechner

Ashley Graham was the daughter of former US President Graham. She was kidnapped by gun-for-hire mercenary Jack Krauser in 2004 and brought to an unknown area of Spain under the instructions of Osmund Saddler, leader of the Los Illuminados cult, and held there, seemingly holding her for ransom.

US Intelligence learned of this and sent Leon S. Kennedy to investigate her disappearance and attempt to locate her abductors. True to his mission, he located Ashley and they worked together to try and escape the area and get her back onto American soil. However, Ashley had been infected with a Las Plagas parasite like all of the other local villagers - and the main goal of her capture was to infect her with the parasite and then send her back to America in order for Saddlers influence over her to infiltrate the US government and then gradually take over the world.

Thankfully, using a medical device built by Luis Sera, the parasite was removed from Ashley's body before it reached maturity and therefore nullified any influence Saddler could have had on her. Leon and Ashley managed to escape after the defeat of the Los Illuminados and returned her home safely.

Read more.. In the game, Ashley's default attire is a woollen orange sleeveless sweater with a green plaid skirt and boots. Through beating the Separate Ways scenario, an alternative outfit can be unlocked which is a suit of armour which makes her seemingly invincible - a common complaint from players about Ashley is around how defenceless she is, the developers must have had similar thoughts to include this costume as a bonus. There is also another costume named Pop Star which could be a reference to Britney Spears, as she and Ashley share a similarity.

When she is partnered up with Leon, she has her own health bar (which can be extended with Yellow Herbs), and she can be loosely controlled by directing her. Certain interactions require Leon to assist her such as climbing down from high places, recovering from a bear trap, and being caught by enemies. There is also a small stealth portion of the game where you solely play as Ashley - no weapons can be used, but ammo can be collected to hand over to Leon later when they re-join.

luis-sera-4r.png
Luis Serra Navarro
Voiced by Andre Pena

Dr. Luis Serra Navarro was a biologist/scientific researcher who was born and raised in an unknown part of Spain which was to become the home of the Los Illuminados cult. For a time he left his homeland in order to learn the necessary skills for his interests and eventually a degree as a Biologist.

In the original Resident Evil 4, his name is localised as Luis Sera. In the Resident Evil 4 Remake, he is named Luis Serra Navarro.

He returned home to find that everybody worshipping the Plaga, a parasite which could affect humans and animals in various ways. He also developed a machine which could remove a Plaga from it's host without killing them, as well as pills that can stunt the growth of an immature Plaga.

He subsequently joined the cult in order to research the Plaga parasites and use his skills to mutate them in various ways - leading to the creation of such creatures as El Gigante, Regenerador, Novistador and others. However, Sera was becoming more and more afraid of what he had helped create and eventually tried to contact one of his old friends - but his friend was dead and instead made contact with Ada Wong, then part of The Organization which was an Umbrella rival. Ada would be sent by The Organization in order to make contact with Serra and obtain a Dominant Plaga egg sample.

Read more.. Unfortunately, Serra was found out and Bitores Mendez was sent to capture and disable him. He was subsequently bound and thrown into a wardrobe to be interrogated later around the whereabouts of the Dominant Plaga egg sample. He encountered Leon S. Kennedy and falsely introduced himself as a police officer from Madrid investigating the area, in order to hide his true identity. Sera was fully aware of the rescue operation Leon was involved in at the time and thought better to be safe than sorry.

Leon, Serra and Ashley Graham made their way through the area, pulling the Los Illuminados apart piece by piece, but their leader Osmund Saddler eventually had the last laugh and killed Sera by impaling him through the chest with his Plaga tentacle.

In the Cabin part of the game where you first meet him as Leon, Serra is an active combatant and can shoot at enemies as well as dish out items such as ammo or health items. He cannot be killed, but he will kill Leon if he is damaged enough times by the player.

Interestingly, Serra's appearance went through a small change as the game was about to be released - he originally sported a moustache, and this can be seen in the game if you obtain his Bottle Cap.

In Resident Evil 4 Remake, Luis is killed by Jack Krauser instead of Osmund Saddler. He also cannot be fired upon by Leon (most likely an intentional choice by developers to prevent a pointless game over screen). His misogynistic characteristics were also vastly reduced (he no longer comments on Ashley).

ada-wong-4r.png
Ada Wong
Voiced by Lily Gao

Ada Wong (known to others as The Woman in the Red Dress before learning her name) claims to be an honest civilian in Raccoon City to look for her missing boyfriend who was an employee of Umbrella named John Clemens, but is actually an undercover spy and expert assassin working for an Umbrella rival company led by Albert Wesker. Her assignment was to retrieve the G-Virus discovered by Dr. William Birkin. Having received special combat training, Ada is able to remain calm and composed even in the most difficult of situations, enabling her to silently carry out her missions. She encountered Leon S. Kennedy during the Raccoon City incident and they both risked each others lives in order to achieve their goals.

Despite several encounters with Leon over the years, Ada has always had an ulterior motive and has manipulated Leon to try and achieve them. They are not enemies, but nor does there appear to be any indication of friendship or affection between them. Nothing from her past can be verified - even her name is not believed to be her real name.

In the game series, Ada has evolved from a non-player character to a full-fledged playable character in the more recent games. For example in Resident Evil 4, a scenario called Separate Ways exists in which Ada is the main character. She is again playable in Resident Evil 6. Also, interestingly the character of Alice from the Resident Evil film franchise was loosely based on Ada. Finally, Ada appears in Resident Evil 3, but only as a cameo, and she is mentioned a handful of times in other games where she does not appear.

ingrid-hannigan-4r.png
Ingrid Hannigan
Voiced by Raylene Harewood

Ingrid Hannigan (sometimes incorrectly localised as Ingrid Hunnigan) worked as Field Operations Support (F.O.S.) for the US Government. She worked mainly with Leon S. Kennedy as a remote advisor and point of contact. She could also provide Leon with intel where necessary - they could communicate bidirectionally over radio and satellite video-link with little to no delay (known as G.R.V.T.)

During Leon's mission to rescue Ashley Graham, the US Presidents daughter from the Los Illuminados, they kept in regular communication until their signal was obfuscated by the cult using some complex radio equipment set up on a nearby Island - which was eventually found by Leon and destroyed, restoring their communication allowing a much delayed mission update to commence.

Hannigan and Leon worked together again several times and she often went above and beyond to help him, for example going as far as falsely reporting Leon as dead after he was framed as the killer of the then-President of the United States Adam Benford, to allow him to continue to locate the real killer.

She always remains a consummate professional, she also constantly reminds Leon to act accordingly and not to goof off, which he has a propensity to do so at times, such as attempting to mildly flirt with her.

mike-4r.jpg
Mike
Voiced by Erik Gow

Mike was a helicopter pilot who worked for the USSTRATCOM (United States Strategic Command) section of the United States Government, under the direction of Ingrid Hunnigan. He was initially assigned as backup on a mission to provide evac to the US Presidents daughter Ashley Graham who had been captured by the Los Illuminados cult and brought to a region of northern Spain.

Initially, Leon S. Kennedy was sent to the area in order to locate Ashley and bring her to a rendezvous point where a helicopter would come and pick them up. However, this helicopter was shot down thus preventing their escape. This forced Hunnigan to call upon Mike as the backup and provide air support to Leon as well as eventually pick them both up.

Mike made his way to the area in his helicopter, and using information from Leon and Hunnigan's frequent radio communications, he eventually found Leon exploring an industrialised island not too far from the mainland. Here, he provided ballistic support as well as light to an otherwise darkened area. At times, he was forced to pull back due to the use of an anti-aircraft Battery - however, Leon was able to dismantle it on the ground which enabled Mike to proceed and assist Leon through the island.

Read more.. Unfortunately, Mikes helicopter was shot down just as he was about to pick up Leon on a cliffside. While he waited in the air for Leon to board, he was fired upon by Los Illuminados soldiers which caused the craft to explode and crash, killing him instantly.

Mike would be remembered for his chatty demeanour, even inviting Leon for a beer after the mission. As this was now impossible, Leon vowed to get revenge on those that murdered his colleague.

His face cannot be seen clearly in-game due to his distance in the air, but using the Model viewer you can get very close to his face which shows that he is at least physically fit, Caucasian and between the ages of 30-40. Using a free-camera mod on the PC version also allows the player to see his face, which is partially modelled.

the-merchant-4r.jpg
The Merchant
Voiced by Micheal Adamthwaite

The Merchant was a Ganado that assisted Leon S. Kennedy throughout his journey during Resident Evil 4, buying and selling merchandise such as weapons, medicines, ammunition and other valuables. He wore a large weathered hooded coat with boots, a purple coloured scarf around his face and an enormous backpack loaded with his wares. He had a main base of operations in a cave only accessible by water, and he became easy to spot for Leon as he always deployed blue flamed torches to signify his appearance.

He spoke English in an Australian accent which was quite bizarre considering his origins - although it could be that he was at least brought up in an English-speaking country. He was clearly a skilled salesperson who knew certain tricks of the trade. What was also clear was that he was Plaga-infected - his eyes glowed in a similar fashion to the other Ganado but contrary to the rest of them, he seemed to have no ill-intent towards Leon and appeared in many different locations throughout his journey. All he was interested in was the buying and selling of his merchandise, as well as upgrades for weapons and other equipment Leon used such as his Attache Case. He also seemed to be able to travel to different places rapidly - something quite unexplainable.

It's unknown how the Merchant got his weapons which included things such as rocket launchers, assault rifles - any weapon in the game can be purchased if the correct requirements are met.

Read more.. In-Game
The Merchant can also be killed like any other Ganado - this makes him inaccessible for a while in that particular location (on Professional difficulty he will stay dead). There is no reason or benefit in shooting him down, as you cannot access any of his products without him.

Also, The Merchant orchestrated a handful of extra activities in the game such as two shooting ranges found later in the game and the 15 Blue Medallions placed around the early parts of the game. Both activities result in on-the-spot prizes for Leon if they are completed.

In the Resident Evil 4 Remake, The Merchant once again appears as Leon's mysterious ally. He cannot be killed in the Remake, and he assigns far more side activities for Leon to complete.

jack-krauser-4r.png
Jack Krauser
Voiced by Mike Kovac

Jack Krauser was an ex-US Army veteran with many tours under his belt - and he often participated in mercenary work on the side. His military career was cut short when he participated in an infiltration mission named Operation Javier for US-SOCOM with Leon S. Kennedy where they encountered t-Virus Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W.s) and was critically injured when one of them impaled him through the arm. He also became rather jealous of Leon's glowing reputation, and later began to see the benefits of t-Virus mutations and soon sought out Albert Wesker, one of the few people that understood the true benefits of the infections.

The attack forced him into an early retirement, and as he was a military man through and through - civilian life would not be possible. Jack needed power, he needed to recover quickly. He worked closely with Wesker to infiltrate the Los Illuminados, a religious cult which worshipped the Plaga, a unique parasite which could increase strength and cause many beneficial mutations. His mission was to steal a Dominant Species Plaga egg - this was an enhanced specimen which could inhibit control over the regular or Recessive Species varieties.

Los Illuminados leader Osmund Saddler did not accept Krauser instantly - he was tasked with kidnapping the US Presidents daughter Ashley Graham and bringing her to them in order for them to then infect her with a Plaga and return her to US soil which would then begin to spread the Plaga there and eventually everywhere else.

Read more.. However, Krauser became so lustful for power and he could see first-hand the possibilities with the Dominant Species Plaga egg, as soon as he obtained the sample from Saddler for completing his task for them he implanted it in himself - betraying his initial mission. The Plaga gifted Krauser with enhanced speed and strength, as well as the ability to mutate his damaged arm into an arm-blade which became almost indestructible. However, Saddler still did not trust him and soon Ada Wong was brought into the fray - and then Wesker changed his mission parameters to eliminate Leon S. Kennedy, who was on a US-STRATCOM mission to rescue Ashley Graham from the Los Illuminados.

Soon, Leon and Krauser confronted one another and they entered combat - Krauser had the upper hand as he had multiple Seeker drones, a sub-machine gun, flash grenades and his aforementioned Plaga enhancements. Leon managed to defeat Krauser by attacking his legs - which resulted in his chest exploding in a shower of blood. However, his Plaga managed to piece enough of him together to bring him to his feet one last time.

Severely weakened, he divulged information about Ashley Graham's whereabouts, he also briefly discussed his links to Umbrella who at that point were assumed to be defunct to Leon's surprise. He was soon finally defeated by Ada Wong who put him down for good.

His initial mission was not a failure however, as Albert Wesker managed to obtain a Dominant Species Plaga sample from his dead body and use that as a basis to develop more. Although Jack Krauser was now dead, being killed in combat is the greatest wish for some hardened soldiers so it's likely that he accepted his fate.

osmund-saddler-4r.png
Osmund Saddler
Voiced by Christopher Jane

Osmund Saddler was a Bio-Organic Weapon (B.O.W.) researcher who lived in an unknown region of Spain. He had unspecified wealth to fund his research. He discovered the fossilised remains of an ancient parasite known as Plaga and studied the organism and was able to create new living specimens, realising that it had enormous potential to create valuable B.O.W.s which he could manufacture and sell across the world. To get assistance with this, he set up a cult named Los Illuminados and gradually converted the mostly Catholic inhabitants of the region to the cult, and implanted them with Plaga - creating what was known as Ganado.

His goal was to eventually infect everybody on earth with a parasite which he could then control, thus giving him free reign to every government in the world. The first stage of this plan was to kidnap the then-US Presidents daughter Ashley Graham. He hired Jack Krauser to kidnap her from her university and bring her to Spain to be implanted with a Plaga egg and then returned to the US in order to pass the infection on to others.

Saddler had lieutenants working under him, namely Ramon Salazar and Bitores Mendez - together they helped create a mythos around Los Illuminados and the Plaga which in turn drew others to it. He eventually became known as a religious figure with locals calling him Prophet Saddler, and the process of implanting a Plaga itself was seen as a way to cleanse an individual of sin.

Read more.. He himself was implanted with a Dominant Species Plaga allowing him control over the Ganado and other lesser creatures. If his ultimate plan was executed successfully he could have controlled the entire US government, and then progressively take over all other countries. His Plaga gave him minor mutations such as a tentacle arm - but eventually when Leon S. Kennedy and Ada Wong confronted him in battle, his parasite began to take over the rest of his body and when it was defeated, Saddler died along with it.

Interestingly, Osmund Saddler is not a name of Spanish origin. "Osmund" means "God's Protection" and is of Germanic origin. "Saddler" is a common American surname. It's likely he is of American origin, but this is not confirmed.

Saddler re-appears in the Resident Evil 4 Remake with what appears to be an expanded role. He is featured more prominently in trailers for the game and his appearance has been updated so that his human design looks more 'mutated'. His design could be a reference to Dennis Hopper's portrayal of King Koopa from the ill-fated Super Mario Bros. movie - as his head and his hair appear to be a single feature.

ramon-salazar-4r.png
Ramon Salazar
Voiced by Marcio Moreno

Ramon Salazar was an eccentric nobleman hailing from an unknown region of Spain, having inherited a castle and the government of the region at a young age through his family who had controlled the area for centuries. He was a practicing Catholic and was popular amongst his people. However he was also fairly young and impressionable and aged 20, he was approached by Osmund Saddler and was convinced to convert to the Los Illuminados cult who worshipped Las Plagas, a parasite that could alter the mind and body in extraordinary ways.

In fact, it was his ancestors which originally sealed away the Plaga parasites - and through the Los Illuminados saw this as a sin for which he must atone. So he set to work excavating their fossils and found ways to bring them back to life and subsequently began experimenting on them in order to enhance their effectiveness and eventually the plan was to spread them across the world.

For his efforts, Salazar was gifted with a Dominant Species Plaga which unlike regular parasites allowed him to control his body and retain his form and also allowed him to control the lesser Plaga infected around him which gave rise to the Cultists which served as his personal armed forces. He also exhibited control over the much stronger Verdugo Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W.) which were born from combining insect DNA with a Plaga parasite into a human host.

Read more.. He was also known for his unusual appearance, having the wrinkled complexion and grey hair of an old man paired with the height and voice of a 10 year old. This was partially because of his Plaga infection - there are paintings of a much younger, normal looking Salazar with smooth skin and dark brown hair.

Salazar's main assignment within the Los Illuminados was to protect the Queen Plaga by any means necessary, as this was the main source of new Plaga eggs. Leon S. Kennedy eventually caught up with him in order to stop him and the Queen Plaga in her chamber and in a desperate attempt to destroy Leon, merged with the creature, along with one of the Verdugo B.O.W.s, creating a new gestalt entity with the minds of all three. Even as he was assimilated into the larger creature he retained most of his human form within it, and still spoke and acted mostly of his own free will, owing to the fact that he was an extremely powerful individual indeed.

Although powerful, Queen Plaga was extremely large and couldn't move from it's chamber - it had literally grown into the building it was situated in which made it susceptible to attack. Leon eventually found a way to destroy it, putting an end to new Plaga creation and Ramon Salazar. It's not known what happened to his castle after this as he appeared to be the end of the bloodline. It's most likely the castle fell into ruin and was lost to the ages.

Salazar appears in the Resident Evil 4 Remake with a similar role. His design has been altered so that he looks even more aged than before, and doesn't appear to wear his classic 'admirals hat'. However, he is still flanked by his two trusty Verdugo sentinels.

bitores-mendez-4r.jpg
Bitores Mendez
Voiced by Jon Bryant

Father Bitores Mendez was originally a well-educated Catholic priest, living in a small Spanish village. Over time he became extremely well respected in the village. He had a large influence over the villagers, and as he was converted to a cult named Los Illuminados by Osmund Saddler, the villagers followed him down his path.

He lived in a much larger home than the other villagers, complete with a shed and large front and back gardens. He lived in a much more civilised manner than the other villagers - his home was clean and tidy, he had a small library filled with books (interestingly all in English - perhaps to learn the language) and he ate regular food at a table setting like ordinary people. It was also well decorated, with many paintings including one of a nearby lake, one of a nearby church, one of Osmund Saddler and one of himself.

His reward from Osmund was a special parasite called a Master Plaga, or Dominant Species Plaga. This gave him increased strength, control over lesser parasites, and the ability to self-induce a rapid but irreversible mutation.

He had a false eye which he actually used as a key to enter a Castle in the village, which has a retinal scanner at it's gate. It's likely that he gave up his eye in order to hold this secret key. Interestingly his real eye was blue, which was highly unusual for somebody indigenous to Spain.

Read more.. The mutation caused him to grow sharp spikes on his fingertips, his torso lengthened and split apart with small legs which resembled an insects. He also sprouted scorpion-like limbs from his back. This made him extremely mobile, and he could even function without his legs, which remained human.

Mendez is battled by Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil 4. The player must win a Quick Time Event (QTE) first or it will be an instant Game Over.

He is beaten through normal firepower. Partway through the fight he splits from his lower half of his body and he becomes more agile, jumping around the room.

When he dies his false eye gently rolls out of it's socket, and soon after his body is incinerated due to a fire started by some ignited petrol.

Mendez appears in the Resident Evil 4 Remake, retaining his red false eye (which appears to be more prominent) - interestingly he also wears a hat, which is somewhat of a trend with the tall, menacing characters of Resident Evil of recent times.

albert-wesker-4r.jpg
Albert Wesker
Voiced by Craig Burnatowski

Dr Albert Wesker had a long and storied history in the fields of military forces, scientific discovery, virology, Bio-Organic Weapons research and distribution, and had ties to criminal organisations as well as his front-facing roles in legitimate organisations.

He was known for his stoic nature, only speaking when necessary with a commanding tone. He tended to wear all black clothing as well as dark sunglasses in all occasions - his eyes were cat-like and glowed red/orange due to the way he was experimented on, so the sunglasses were needed to allow him to blend in. He rarely showed any emotion, only cracking a wry smile when he knew that he had gained the upper hand in combat for example. Ultimately, Albert brazenly lost all of his inhibitions and subsequently his life when he purposely infected himself with a potent sample of the Uroborus virus in a final showdown with arch-rival Chris Redfield but was killed.

His origins began with Project W - a special project started by Oswell E. Spencer, one of the original founders of Umbrella. Spencer believed that the human race was beginning to lose its edge with too many 'weak' people in modern society and he strived to create the perfect human organism through genetic engineering and introducing the Progenitor virus to the human cells once these humans had reached a certain level of maturity. One of the lead researchers on the project was named Dr Wesker and subsequently every child in the project was given the surname Wesker, in commemoration of his excellent work.

Read more.. Many viable children were obtained in various ways, some illegally - and hundreds of them were forced to take part in the various experiments for the project and due to the various traumas and horrifying experiments, unfortunately died. The few that survived were further trained heavily and sent across the globe to work in various industries in order to give them an opportunity to lead a relatively normal life without knowledge of their 'creation', and also as a way for Umbrella to monitor their effectiveness in many different fields and cultures. Two of the subjects were naturally drawn back to Umbrella as the company interested them - Alex Wesker and Albert Wesker - and they both gained employment with the company, under the Umbrella Pharmaceuticals arm.

Once the "Wesker Children" reached adult maturity, Umbrella continued to monitor them all and then selected the strongest candidates to take the next stage of Project W which is to be infected with the Progenitor virus, which had a reputation for killing mostly everything it came into contact with, but in extremely rare occasions it endowed a person with superhuman abilities. The ideal scenario would be for every Wesker to gain abilities. Thirteen were singled out for the infection, and all of them died apart from Alex and Albert. With his infection with a unique variant of the Progenitor Virus, Albert became superhuman, gaining extreme strength, speed, resistance to damage and super fast healing. Alex had no such changes, but the virus did not kill her.

Much later in his life, Albert continued with researching the Progenitor virus which was utilised in his creation and subsequent 'perfection' and developed it into a more potent experiment named Uroboros - this acted similar to the virus infection stage of Project W but kill incompatible people to a much larger degree.

Shortly after he became superhuman, in his work with Umbrella he was assigned to the Arklay Laboratory as a senior researcher and contributed much to the t-Virus Project and also worked on various B.O.W. experiments, including the Tyrant Project - where Umbrella were attempting to create superhuman soldiers using the t-Virus as a base. However things were starting to become strained between him, Umbrella itself, and his close colleague Dr William Birkin because the company were continually putting pressure on the two to create a B.O.W. with better intelligence which was one of the main flaws in their creations thus far. This was down to the particular strain of the t-Virus that they were working with called the Beta II Strain, which soon gave rise to an improved version named Epsilon. Eventually Dr Birkin was transferred out to a different facility called NEST while he researched a different virus named the Golgotha Virus (G-Virus), and the Tyrant Project was stalled by Umbrella, halting Alberts work. He was furious that Dr Birkin was able to continue with his work on Golgotha which was known to be extremely temperamental and unmanageable - whereas he could no longer do the same, despite the Progenitor Virus and t-Virus both appearing to be far more adaptable.

In 1991, Albert then decided to officially leave Umbrella Pharmaceuticals and because of his impressive track record he had no problem gaining employment in other areas. First he joined the US Army, but at the same time he also retained employment in secret with Umbrella and worked in their secretive intelligence sector as a spy for the company. It was also at this time where he began a brief relationship with a Serbian woman which did not last but it bore a child called Jake Muller which he was not aware of.

After his 5 year stint in the military, he was assigned a new role by Umbrella in 1996 which was to join the new S.T.A.R.S. division of the local Raccoon City Police Department where he was made a captain of Alpha Team (and also held seniority over the Bravo Team captain) and was soon dispatched to the Spencer Mansion for a mission. Before this, Albert visited the Arklay Laboratory which was a secret facility constructed underneath the mansion to retrieve some T-002 Tyrant embryos - as at the time a t-Virus infection had spread in the laboratory which turned living things into zombies and all subjects had to be destroyed. However during the retrieval, Cerberus B.O.W.s which appeared to be t-Virus infected dobermans managed to escape to the exterior of the mansion and killed innocent people in the surrounding areas which prompted the local Raccoon City Police Department to dispatch S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team and Alpha Team to the area to investigate along with Chris Redfield who would have somewhat of a rivalry with Albert for many years. Also part of the team were Jill Valentine and Barry Burton, both of which also held resentment towards Albert over the coming decade.

Albert received orders from Umbrella to attempt to draw S.T.A.R.S. members to the remaining creatures roaming the area in order to provide them with combat data with the added side effect that the creatures would then kill them, and this would not raise any suspicion that he was doing anything underhand, as the creatures were extremely strong, resilient and the most likely result of an encounter between them and a human would be the creatures would kill them. He was also tasked with sabotaging any escape attempt - namely Bravo Teams helicopter and also he was instructed to trigger the Arklay Laboratory self destruct sequence once all other tasks were complete.

At a similar time to the mansion incident, Umbrella also tasked Albert with overseeing the re-opening of a training school for Umbrella Executive staff. However something went wrong and a viral outbreak occurred and the only option was to obliterate the school with explosives. This made Albert seriously reconsider his place within Umbrella and he subsequently agreed to hand over the T-002 Tyrant embryos to a rival company instead of Umbrella as originally planned.

For his task in the Arklay Laboratory, Albert was given a unique type of t-Virus named Prototype Virus specially created for his genome which would increase his strength even further to give him an edge in battle when encountering the creatures there himself - and he made preparations to unleash a T-002 Tyrant which at the time was being held in containment. However the Tyrant recognised him from his time working for Umbrella Pharmaceuticals on the Tyrant Project from many years before, and angrily impaled him through the chest which would have killed any normal person, but because of his various mutations caused by the layers of viruses in his body, he regenerated, healed and after a short time - he reawakened, eyes glowing bright red with rage.

After he came to, he realised that the self destruct mechanism was counting down in the Arklay Laboratory, he had limited time to escape and could not retrieve the embryos he had promised to both Umbrella and the rival company and still managed to escape because of his superhuman speed - although he was still reported as dead by Umbrella and S.T.A.R.S. due to the Tyrant attack. While making his exit he encountered Lisa Trevor, a Test Subject who years earlier had been subjected to hundreds of different infections and examinations which twisted her body horribly but she refused to die and continually mutated / with his superhuman strength he managed to escape her clutches and subsequently escaped the area moments before it was destroyed in a huge fireball, killing everything inside and - as far as they knew - burning up any evidence of wrongdoing on Umbrellas part.

After this, he retreated to the shadows keeping his faked death a secret and he attained employment with the rival company (The Organization) and worked for a division named H.C.F. who were a military arm that specialised in recovering Umbrella research and B.O.W. samples. With Alberts assistance, the H.C.F eventually managed to obtain the Golgotha Virus and the T-Veronica Virus - and with his expertise and inside knowledge the company began to create their own modified variants of existing Bio-Organic Weapons, but not before a confrontation with Chris Redfield at Rockfort Island - and Chris could not possibly have defeatEd Albert in direct combat due to his mutations but did manage to burn his face, which angered him but he soon safely escaped on a submarine.

Being able to successfully sell these modified B.O.W.s put a huge dent in Umbrellas profitability and the company began its rapid decline, and Albert also began contacting key Umbrella clients attempting to get them to switch their business to the rival company - and in most cases he was successful. Sometime later he was contacted by Jack Krauser who was an injured military veteran who wanted a second start in life and knew that Albert was an important figure in biological enhancement and renewal.

As the years went by, Albert repeatedly encountered his old S.T.A.R.S colleagues Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine as an enemy and often fought with Albert always having the upper hand and managing to escape. He was also subject to a massive lawsuit between himself and Umbrella USA over the damage caused to their facilities and their businesses caused by his actions, but he submitted proof to the US Government that the t-Virus and all of the virus outbreaks were created and orchestrated by the company. Having to give out billions in compensation to affected families, the company declared bankruptcy.

One of Alberts last endeavours was with a competing pharmaceutical company named Tricell Inc, where he partnered up with a geneticist named Excella Gionnne, and through him offering up his specialist knowledge of the t-Virus and others, she moved up through the ranks and eventually was appointed CEO and Chief Bio-Weapons Developer of Tricell Africa. During this time, he learned of the existence of the Plaga parasite and the Los Illuminados cult of Spain.

While working for the H.C.F he sent Jack Krauser on a mission to retrieve a Dominant Species Plaga Egg so he could research its mind-controlling properties as well as the mutagenic features of the parasite. It is also worth noting that around the same time Albert began working as a go-between for The Organization and a spy named Ada Wong - their goals were similar at certain points, such as both being tasked to obtain the Plaga sample, but as the company was so secretive, Wong didn't know that they ultimately all worked for the same unit. For a while Albert acted as liaison for Wong.

Krauser had failed to return the parasite as instructed, and in fact injected it into his own body in order to reap the benefits, but was ultimately killed when Leon S. Kennedy and Ada teamed up and his body exploded. Still, Albert got what he needed as he simply retrieved a sample from his corpse. Besides, he never fully trusted Krauser to begin with.

Officially Albert was tasked as by The Organization to hand over the Dominant Species Plaga sample, but he also secretly assigned Ada to retrieve a Recessive Species Plaga for himself - and his ultimate goal was to give Tricell various Plaga samples in order to help them conduct their own research as well as sell powerful B.O.W.s which could be created from them. Albert was given unprecedented access to the very origin point of the Progenitor Virus - a facility was constructed in a cave adjacent to where the virus was first discovered, and for a long time the virus samples could only be reproduced there so it was an extremely valuable site. This caught the attention of Dr Lord Spencer, one of the earliest Umbrella employees who managed to contact Albert and wished to meet - at this stage Lord Spencer was of an advanced age and could barely walk.

Albert and Excella worked closely with fellow Tricell Bio-Weapons researcher and black market dealer Ricardo Irving in order to set up an underhand trade ring - to ensure that funds kept pouring in without any kind of paper trail or taxes needing to be paid.

It was at this point where Lord Spencer informed Albert of his origins as part of Project W - until this point he just assumed he was a naturally gifted individual, but this revelation answered many questions he had throughout his life and he finally understood what Umbrella's research was meant for. With little emotion Albert punched him through the chest, but as interrupted by his old colleagues Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine who were by that point working for the B.S.A.A. who had attended the property to arrest Lord Spencer for his crimes against humanity. A brief scuffle occurred which resulted in Jill and Albert crashing through a window and falling into the depths below. Due to his enhanced abilities, Albert was unharmed but Jill was knocked unconscious - and Albert decided to take her back to Tricell and keep her as a Test Subject for their research.

New research began at Tricell named the Uroboros Project, which would strive to create a new type of virus based on the Progenitor strain that would destroy most people in the world including rival organisations but if a person with the correct genetic makeup were to be infected they would become superhuman, like Albert. Any subject rejected by the virus would end up being horribly mutated and become a monster with writing tentacles.

Many tests were conducted with hundreds of subjects, and all of them became monsters and were killed as they were rejected by the virus. Jill Valentine however, with her history with the t-Virus, including having a cure administered to her back in Raccoon City Hospital, was completely incompatible with the tests as her antibodies simply fought against the infection. Instead, Albert decided to use her as an agent of sorts and had her constantly injected with performance enhancing drugs which also gave him a degree of control over her, all operated with a chest mounted device which interfaced directly with her heart.

The continued research into Uroboros determined that it could be fashioned into an airborne virus - and missiles were developed that could launch the material into the upper atmosphere and then detonate, blanketing an entire area and infecting everybody on the ground. This way, forced evolution or horrible mutation and death would occur in 99% of the worlds population over a single day. Albert managed to procure a stealth bomber through his black market links and planned to use it to make a single round-trip, releasing the virus around the world.

However the B.S.A.A. somehow learned intel of Tricell's research and also heard rumours of Jill Valentine possibly being alive and dispatched Chris Redfield and his partner Sheva Alomar to Kijujj, Africa. Their first mission was to locate and detain Ricardo Irving who was under suspicion of introducing black market Bio-Weapons to the area. The Plaga parasite earlier seen in Spain by Leon S. Kennedy had been introduced there, but there were several unique variants which existed that could have only created by Tricells research. Ricardo transformed himself into a hulking monster by infecting himself with a special Plaga in a desperation move to destroy the B.S.A.A. agents but was ultimately defeated and later Chris and Sheva finally encountered Albert, Excella and a subjugated Jill.

Jill was rescued by Chris when they entered combat together and he carefully removed the device on her chest which controlled her actions and gave her superhuman abilities. When she came to her senses, she managed to recover and most likely was extracted by the B.S.A.A.

Excella held Albert was a high regard as he had helped her rise through the ranks in her organisation, and as such had a kind of attraction to him which he did not reciprocate. This frustrated her and ultimately his betrayal destroyed her after he injected her with a sample of Uroboros to distract Chris and Sheva who had followed the pair onto a Tricell tanker where the stealth bomber was hidden. Due to the amount of organic material on the tanker, Uroboros violently rejected her and absorbed all of the material in the vicinity, creating an enormous monster several stories tall - the creature resembled a plant, with many arms and large glowing organs. While this was ensuring, Albert continued with his plans to launch the virus across the world.

There was no way that Albert could be defeated in one on one combat, as his genetic mutations and viruses made him superhuman. However, he was not infallible - Chris learned of Alberts reliance on a medicinal injection to keep his abilities in check - a compound unique to him called PG67A/W. This medicine was based on the Progenitor strain and was designed to stabilise the cocktail of viruses inside Alberts body, keeping him strong. Chris managed to steal a few doses of his medicine and gave Albert a massive dose which severely damaged him and caused his abilities to recede somewhat - although he was not terribly weakened by this.

An uncharacteristically angry Albert nevertheless managed to launch the stealth bomber but it was subsequently boarded by Chris and Sheva who after a quick scuffle on board and another overdose of PG67A/W, managed to throw him out of the aircraft into a volcanic area below. Soon after this the plane crashed into the volcano and his world domination plans were destroyed. He entered combat with Chris directly on the ground and in an ultimate desperation move, punched through one of the Uroboros missiles which had fallen from the bomber and infected himself with the virus. The infection took hold rapidly and his upper body was mostly transformed, looking organic and bionic in nature with tentacles and metal parts as part of his body - he began to violently attack Chris but was soon scuppered after a B.S.A.A. helicopter approached the scene and picked up Chris and Sheva.

Wesker continued his assault, attempting to bring down the helicopter but was ultimately destroyed when he took a hit from a RPG missile which the resulting impact and explosion critically damaged him, knocked him into the lava, and killed him.

His death sent waves throughout the industry and the B.O.W. black markets, as he was virtually the only consistent advocate for such things for decades. His personal research was also investigated freely after this point where it was found that he was also researching anti-virus weaponry, which resulted in a series of weaponry dedicated to the destruction of B.O.W.s, including the Albert-01 based on his Samurai Edge W sidearm and the Albert-02 Thor's Hammer shotgun which ironically Chris Redfield later used when he worked under Blue Umbrella.

Albert Wesker was dead after years of tyranny but his research continues to be studied to this day and indeed his later research into extremely effective anti B.O.W. and anti-viral products have both amazed and puzzle as the industry, with it almost being seen as his redemption.
