Would You Play a Resident Evil–Themed State of Decay?

I've been thinking about how well the Resident Evil universe could support a game built around the community‑management style of State of Decay. RE has a long history of great shooters and even some RPG‑leaning titles, but the world itself feels perfect for something more open‑ended and community‑driven.

Outlying communities are already a big part of RE lore: isolated towns, scattered survivors, small groups trying to hold out against biohazards. A game that actually focuses on one of those communities, with base‑building, survivor management, and story arcs shaped by RE's huge amount of lore and backstory, seems like it could fit naturally.

I say "themed," but honestly RE could add a lot more than just flavor. The quests, the world events, the threats, the characters; there's so much material to pull from. And on top of that, it would give State of Decay some real competition in the genre, which I think would be a good thing.

So I'm curious: Would you play a Resident Evil–themed State of Decay‑style game? Do you think the RE universe lends itself to that kind of community‑focused survival experience?

I've never played State of Decay (it was an Xbox only title, so it figures).

I know they did such an expansion for Dead By Daylight, but I've not played that either.

A few months ago I honestly would've said State of Decay 3 might end up on PlayStation, especially with how hard Xbox was pushing cross‑platform. But with how things have shifted lately, I don't think that's likely anymore.

If you ever get the chance to play the series, it's great. It's not true horror, though they could lean into horror more if they wanted, but it's a really grounded take on a zombie outbreak. More about survival, community, and keeping your people alive than jump scares.

That's actually why I see so much potential in the idea of blending it with Resident Evil. RE constantly gives us glimpses of these isolated survivor communities, towns trying to hold out, people scraping by while everything collapses. State of Decay already thrives on that concept, and a RE‑themed version could really build on it. The lore is there, the world is there, and the tone fits surprisingly well.

It's one of those crossovers that sounds odd at first but makes more sense the longer you think about it.
