These types of Spider are essentially younglings which are birthed from a mature adult which has been infected with the t-Virus - they often sprout from the abdomen in large numbers and swarm a target. In most cases this occurs after the adult has been killed - but sometimes the adult spider is capable of launching smaller spiders as a kind of attack.
In general these spiders do not cause much damage and are more of an inconvenience. They have enough strength to cause irritation and limit movement slightly but they have not been known to kill anybody.
The most effective way to destroy a small spider is either by stepping on it or if there is a large swarm, a specialist weapon such as a flamethrower. Using projectile weapons is not advised due to their small size and agility - unless you are a perfect shot it will be difficult to hit one.
