The Plague Crawler was an early foray into DNA splicing by Dr James Marcus of Umbrella Pharmaceuticals - he experimented with merging together several different kinds of insect DNA with the t-Virus; the virus worked with what organic material it had and managed to connect the dots which produced the creature known as the Plague Crawler.

They resembled a mixture of Cockroach, grasshopper and fly - and grew to approximately 6 feet. They had the power to decapitate a human being with their sharp pincers but otherwise they acted similarly to a regular insect. However, like all t-Virus creatures of the time it's intelligence was severely hampered by unavoidable brain decay. Straight away they were unsuitable as a B.O.W. (Bio-Organic Weapon) - but it proved the concept that different DNA could be joined if the t-Virus was incorporated.

This proved to be a great jumping off point for future experiments. Unfortunately the Plague Crawler project was put to bed fairly quickly after the first few prototypes were made; any surviving creatures were meant to have been destroyed but a handful managed to escape containment, only to be killed later.

The research data was saved despite the poor quality of the product; as such they made it onto the Bio-Weapons black market - eventually some were produced but these were also destroyed.
